Saved By The Bell was definitely one of my favourites back in the day! Although most of the shenanigans on the show were all just a script that the actors were following but what really happened when the script was done and the recording stopped? There have been some recent revelations about some scandals that were going on amongst the cast and I for one had no idea. This kinda changes the show for me!Image Source
1. According to RadarOnline Tiffani-Amber Thiessen who played Kelly was actually dating both Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zac Morris) and Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater).
“They made it very clear that they were now in a relationship — holding hands, being cutesy, etc,” he wrote.
But Tiffani ended their relationship after she caught him CHEATING during a live taping.
“He was in his dressing room, making out with an extra, and Tiffani came in, catching him red-handed,” Engel remembers.
“She was wearing his letter jacket and, in a rage, ripped it off and threw it at him. After that, she ran out.”
Executive producer Peter Engel revealed some shocking truths:
“Monday through Friday, I would wake up and smoke two joints, pop speed to get through work, snort a gram of cocaine, and take a handful of Quaaludes to fall asleep.”
He also admitted that Jessie Spano’s meltdown on the show was actually meant to be much darker.
Our favourite gang!
Jessie was actually supposed to be on speed during her meltdown on the 1990 episode Jessie’s Song.
NBC didn’t let that happen, though. They weren’t happy adding amphetamine to the show.
“When I originally wrote the episode with Tom Tenowich, Jessie was hooked on speed, not caffeine pills,” he wrote.
“But Standards and Practices, the censorial department at NBC, vetoed it, saying speed was too serious for Saturday mornings.”
Engel wasn’t happy with changes but settled for the caffeine pill angel instead.
“We kept the episode virtually the same, but swapped out the speed,” he said.
“I wasn’t pleased about it, after all, the average caffeine pill, was the equivalent of a cup of coffee, so we might as well have had Jessie get addicted to Earl Grey, or breaking into The Max to snort coffee grounds. But hey, we had to start somewhere.”
