Sophie Turner is perhaps best known for playing Sansa Stark on the HBO hit Game of Thrones.

Sophie was only young when she won the part, and since then we’ve seen her career grow and develop, with the actress set to star in the upcoming X-Men film Dark Phoenix.

She’s got a pretty famous other-half too, non other than Joe Jonas! The pair got together after the Jonas brother contacted her via Instagram.

All these things are pretty common knowledge. But was about the stuff that isn’t quite so well-known?

20. Sansa was her first major role

Even though she performs like a seasoned pro, Sansa Stark is actually Sophie’s first major acting role.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Turner was cast as Sansa Stark after HBO conducted casting searches at local schools.

Turner auditioned one lunchtime along with her friends. Little did she know this would land her a part in one of TV’s biggest shows.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Sophie’s mother was the one who gave her the news that she landed the role.

She said: “My mom woke me up one morning and was like, ‘Good morning, Sansa.’ I woke up and was like, ‘No!!!’ and just started crying. It was a really good day.” Talk about the best morning ever!

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

We couldn’t imagine anyone else playing the Lady of Winterfell!

19. She has a dog and an apartment in New York City with her fiancé Joe Jonas

So what do you do with all of the money you earn from appearing in Game of Thrones? You buy an apartment in New York, of course!

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Turner bought the apartment with her fiancé, Joe Jonas, after the pair got engaged in October 2017.

Also living at the apartment with them is a dog named Porky Basquait.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Joe and Turner first started speaking after Joe direct messaged the actress on Instagram.

Initially there was criticism to their relationship, especially to the fact that Turner was getting engaged at such a young age.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

I think once you’ve found the right person, you just know,” Turner, now 23, said. She added that she feels “much older” than her actual age, like 27 or 28.

18. She has an instagram dedicated to reviewing sausages

That’s right! Sophie Turner, aka Sansa Stark, has an Instagram account dedicated purely for the reviewing of sausages.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

The @SophiesSausageReviews account has around 34,800 followers and its bio reads, “Passionate Bout The Saus.”

The last review on the site was 54 weeks ago and is a review of some creamy sausage concoction.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

In it she says: “Belmont, North Carolina. Wow. What. A. Sauce. Complimented by the biscuits. But by itself it really holds it own! Ratio of sauce to sausage bits it’s perfection. The sauce? Creamy, not too thick, not too thin.”

“The sausage bits? Perfect in tenderness and not too big-a-chunks. 9.5/10 .”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

“If it was a pure solid sausage I would give a ten, but considering it’s sauce I can’t give it a ten purely because that’s not my brand. Very very impressed by this.”

17. She starred in a Bastille music video

Turner hasn’t starred in much whilst playing Sansa Stark…sh’s a buy girl.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

She has appeared in a couple of music videos, however .

She was the star of Bastille’s video for the track “Oblivion.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

She then starred in the music video for the Jonas Brother’s “Sucker” video.

Turner is due to appear in the new X-Men film, Dark Phoenix, as Jean Grey.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Jean is struck by a cosmic force in space that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.

16. Her social-media following helped get her a job

Actors, in more cases than none, have to audition for a role if they want it. Usually, the best person for the job will get it.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

In one case, Turner says that her social media following actually helped her to secure one job.

“It was between me and another girl who is a far better actress than I am, far better, but I had the followers, so I got the job,” she told the publication.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

“A lot of what I have achieved is about timing and luck, but it is also, and I hate to say it, about a big social-media following,” she added.

“It’s not right, but it is part of the movie industry now.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

So there you have it! If you want to bag yourself an acting job in the future…get Instagramming!

15. She has matching tattoos with her brothers

Sophie has a tattoo on her left arm that she said is based on Plato’s theory that the soul is comprised of three parts – reason, spirit and appetite.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

“Reason is my eldest brother, James, spirit is my other brother, Will, and I’m appetite. It means a lot to us.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]
Turner got a passion for tattoos after her title character in Josie was covered in them.
I had all these badass tattoos all over my body,” Turner told Refinery29 in an interview last year.
[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]
“I looked at myself in the mirror and I was like, ‘This is so far from my redheaded, pale, clean-cut look.’ That was really fun for me.”

14. She’s a natural blonde

Despite Sansa Stark’s hair being red, Turner is a natural blonde.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

“The hair color that is the most me is blonde,” Turner told Marie Claire earlier this year. “It’s my natural hair color. With red hair, I feel like a classier and more empowered woman.”

“But when I’m blonde I feel normal and tomboy-ish, which is more my personality.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Usually, Turner would dye her hair red for the role of Sansa, but in Season 7 she had to wear wigs.

“At the time, I had a really bad experience with dyeing my hair blonde, and it was in really bad condition,”the actress explains.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

“The team couldn’t dye my hair for GoT until it was healthy again so they put me in a wig.”

13. She has a very strong bladder

This maybe TMI, but Turner apparently has a pretty strong bladder and can hold off from the loo for a while.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

“When I was little, I used to hold it in until I wet myself. I think I stretched my bladder so much that now I’m able to hold it for hours,” she told the publication.

“I don’t even think about it during the day and then I eventually realize I should probably go.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

This is probably useful when filming long Game of Thrones sequences, such as the recent Battle of Winterfell.

The shoot consisted of 11 weeks of “grueling,” freezing night shoots.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Sansa spent most of the time down in the crypts, so we doubt she was subjected to any of that.

12. She has a phobia of drains

Some people have a phobia of spiders. Others have a phobia of clowns.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Sophie Turner has a phobia of walking over drains.

“I have a phobia of walking over drains—it freaks me out.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

” don’t know what it is, but I get so nervous whenever I see one.”

“Someone once told me to say the word ‘onions’ when I walk over one and it will reverse the curse.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

“So now I say it every time. I guess it’s a superstition thing, but it helps.”

11. The girl can hold her own in a rap battle

Turner has previously admitted that she is capable of holding her own in a rap battle.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

“I know every word to Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits album.

“I heard his music for the first time when I was 8, and I would challenge myself to go home after school and come back the next morning knowing a different verse.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

“Because let’s be honest, what’s more important: science or rap music?”

If you want to check Sophie’s vocal abilities, take a look at her carpool karaoke with Maisie Williams!

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Perhaps Sansa will be able to rap herself onto the Iron Throne!

10. She kept her direwolf

Game of Thrones has a lot of heartbreaking moments, but some of the worst involve not the heroes or villains of the series, but the animals.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

For example, when Sansa Stark’s very own direwolf Lady had her time on the show mercilessly cut short, fans on the show were left totally distraught.

They weren’t the only ones, since Sophie herself couldn’t bear to stop seeing the adorable pup around on set.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

To fix the problem, she contacted the trainers who owned Zunni (the dog who played Lady) and decided to adopt her.

Zunni now lives with Sophie and her family, and has grown from a pup into a big adorable dog.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Zunni got a new name and even an Instagram page courtesy of Sophie, making her a celebrity in her own right.

9. She’ll defend Sansa to the end

Though Sophie Turner is a beloved actress, and an integral part of the Game Of Thrones family, Sansa Stark hasn’t always been the most popular character.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

In fact, for a significant portion of the show’s audience, she has proven pretty hard to warm up to, with fans thinking she is cold and distant.

Not only that, but some have labelled her personality as weak and fearful, especially in contrast to her sword-wielding sister Arya.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

This has led to a lot of critique of her character, some of which she has literally been tagged in on social media. However, Sophie is not the kind of person to let her character (even if it’s fictional) be slandered.

This led to Sophie leaping in to defend her character, in a Twitter thread where a fan said that Littlefinger only had her best interests at heart.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Her response was simple but epic, with her replying to the fan saying: “Nah.. he just willingly sold her to the Bolton’s… who [ended] her family… who ended up [hurting] her… but ur right.. no harm done.”

8. Her GoT sister is her best friend

The relationship between Arya and Sansa that we see on the show might be rocky, but the same definitely can’t be said for the actresses who play them.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Sophie and Maisie have been inseparable right from the beginning, when they screen tested together in an audition for Game Of Thrones.

It was obvious from the start that they were meant to be a part of each other’s lives, as the casting directors saw that they had incredible chemistry right off the bat.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The two friends agreed that they were meant to work on the show together, as they later got matching tattoos of the day they met.

Though many fans think that Maisie is the much younger actress due to her more diminutive height, the two women are actually only a year apart in age.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

This has led to them becoming best friends both on the set and off, and are basically inseparable in real life.

7. She had a seriously needy ex

Way before Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas were an item, Sophie Turner fell in young love with a musician named James McVey.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

If the name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s a member of The Vamps, a popular boy band that came to prominence in the UK.

The two were never serious, but were seen together a lot for a few months, and it seemed as though they might be considering staying in the relationship for the long haul.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

However, that rumour was put to bed in 2014, when the two got in a very public Twitter row that ended the relationship.

Turner soon moved on, but McVey was less willing to put the relationship to bed. For some reason, he decided the best way to handle this would be to post a picture of the two of them on Instagram, making petty jabs about how their relationship must have been an act.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Turner responded in a way that was both mature and biting, saying: “wow. Harsh words. Ps. Please stop texting me… it’s getting creepy and I’m sorry I’m not interested.”

6. She was supposed to be a twin

Sophie Turner is a complete original, which may explain why fans are always surprised to learn that she was supposed to have a twin.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Initially her mother was pregnant with both Sophie and another child, with the two of them supposed to be born on the same day.

Tragically, Sophie’s mother lost the second baby mid-way through the pregnancy, but thankfully Sophie remained strong and healthy.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Still, she was always aware of the fact that she should have had another brother or sister her same age, which she said helped her to reach certain emotions during her acting for Game of Thrones.

She said the loss was even harder to deal with because of her two older siblings, who were both less than a year apart in age.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Since they were so close, she often felt a little left out, and wished she had someone her own age to talk to.

5. Game of Thrones is delaying her wedding

Sophie has said that she is confused by all the attention lavished on her engagement to Joe Jonas, and that she doesn’t consider it the biggest achievement in her life.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Instead, she has considered it a sign that she has found the person who makes her feel the most at home and peaceful, and hopes she can use that stability to rocket her career to even greater heights.

However, while she’s adamant that her wedding is not an accomplishment to be celebrated, she is no doubt planning a day of celebration with her friends and family.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The downside is, that celebration will have to wait until her run on Game Of Thrones is over.

Maisie Williams said in interview that Turner and Jonas were in no rush to get married, and were happy to enjoy each other’s company for as long as they could.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

With that said, she admitted that the pair were specifically waiting for shooting to wrap on Game Of Thrones before setting a date.

4. Maisie Williams is going to be her bridesmaid

How did Maisie Williams know so much about Turner’s wedding plans? The answer is simple.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Since Williams and Turner are such good friends, complete with matching tattoos and sleepovers, she plans to be a bridesmaid at the wedding.

Williams was asked over a year ago in the press if she planned to bid for a bridesmaid position, and her response was as sassy as if Arya had answered herself.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

She smugly replied “I’ve already got it”, confirming that there had never been any question about her bridesmaiding ability.

However, the bond between them goes even deeper than that, since they’re more like adopted sisters than just good friends.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

That relationship was even acknowledged by Joe Jonas himself, who said he couldn’t wait to have Williams as a sister-in-law.

3. She loves trashy reality TV

Game Of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on television, if not the most popular of all time. With that said, it’s not the most relaxing program out there.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

That’s why it wasn’t surprising when Turner, when asked about her favourite shows to pass the time, pointed towards trashy reality TV.

In particular, she has said she is fascinated with American reality television, such as Keeping Up With The Kardashians or even Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

However, even though she’s a big fan of those shows, it doesn’t necessarily mean she agrees with the people who star in them.

Fans have come to this conclusion because when asked what other TV characters she’d love to appear in GoT, she said the Kardashians without question.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

That might sound complimentary, but when asked why she was clear it wasn’t, since the answer was so she could “finish them”.

2. She’s allergic to horses

Game Of Thrones is set in a fictional fantasy kingdom, which means it features all kinds of otherworldly threats, such as frost giants and dragons.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

However, Sophie Turner is only afraid of one of the animals that appears in the show, and it’s not the one you might expect.

Though horses are the most common form of transport throughout the kingdoms seen in Game Of Thrones, Sansa will only be seen riding one when absolutely necessary.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

This is because, while not directly afraid of the animals, she is afraid of the allergic reaction she has whenever she is near them.

Even being near horses is enough to make her throat swell up, which she says leaves her struggling to breathe.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

That means that whenever she’s tasked with riding for a scene, she has to make sure to do it with an inhaler in her pocket, which she uses between takes.

1. She has another Hollywood best friend

Maisie Williams might be Sophie Turner’s most well-documented Hollywood friendship, but she’s not her only showbiz BFF.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Also on the list is Hailee Steinfeld, the actress who first rose to prominence in movies such as The DUFF and Bumblebee.

It’s not entirely sure how the two first met, other than just running in the same actress circles, but they became inseparable very quickly.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

In fact, it was even Steinfield who encouraged Turner to get to know Joe Jonas, since the two of them had collaborated before.

Turner had texted Steinfield asking her what Jonas was like, and if it was a good idea to get to know him further.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Steinfield told her to go for it, and since the first date eventually led to a marriage proposal, it’s fair to say that Steinfeild is an accomplished celebrity matchmaker.
