The Harry Potter movie series is full of magic and mischief, and it also features plenty of romance between characters. But what about the actors who starred in the movies?

Now all grown up, Daniel Radcliffe and his fellow castmates have had their fair share of romances and flings over the years. Here, we’ve brought you a list of all the real-life partners (and in some cases ex-partners) of the Harry Potter cast.

1. Gary Oldman and Gisele Schmidt

Through his decades-long Hollywood career, Gary Oldman has been married five times. His first marriage was to English actress Leslie Manville, with whom he had a son. Oldman separated from Manville just three months after their child was born, though they are now good friends and have two grandchildren.

Oldman also had a high-profile, two-year romance with superstar Uma Thurman, with them marrying in 1990 but divorcing in 1992. Two further marriages later, Gary Oldman is now married to writer and art curator Gisele Schmidt. The pair tied the knot in 2017 and are still going strong today, though they tend to stay away from the spotlight.

2. Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome

Rupert Grint has had an on-off relationship with Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging actress Georgia Groome for several years now. Grint announced his arrival on Instagram by sharing a picture of himself with his and Groome’s daughter, Wednesday, in 2020, but otherwise the couple have spent nearly a decade keeping their relationship away from the spotlight.

The paparazzi have managed to get a few snaps of them out and about in London, and in October last year one lucky Potter fan managed to take a picture with Grint and Groome at the premiere of Groome’s film Double Date.

3. Bonnie Wright and Andrew Lococo

Bonnie Wright has had her fair share of high-profile relationships since the beginning of her time in the Harry Potter spotlight, getting engaged to heartthrob Jamie Campbell-Bower in 2011 and dating infamous nightclub owner Simon Hammerstein in 2012.

Wright also dated Glee’s Jacob Artist from 2013 to 2014, but finally settled down into a stable relationship with American businessman Andrew Lococo. In March of 2022, Wright took to Instagram to confirm that she had tied the knot with Lococo. Wright often shares snaps of herself and her new hubby on the platform, and they can often be seen hiking and travelling the world together.

4. Emma Thompson and Greg Wise

At points, Emma Thompson’s love life has had all the makings of a scintillating romantic drama. From 1989 to 1994, Thompson dated fellow future Potter star Kenneth Branagh, and the two were dubbed a ‘golden couple’ by the press. However, everything came crashing down in 1995, when it emerged that Branagh had been having an affair with Helena Bonham Carter.

Happily, Thompson began a relationship with actor and producer Greg wise the same year, and the pair are still together today, married and living happily in Italy. Speaking of the ending of her first relationship and the beginning of her second, Thompson said: “Work saved me and Greg saved me. He picked up the pieces and put them together again.”

5. Emma Watson and Leo Robinton

After facing intense press scrutiny during her Potter years, Emma Watson now abides by strict rules to keep her professional and personal lives separate. Watson’s main boundary is that she refuses to make official public appearances with her romantic partners, and doesn’t discuss her love life in interviews much at all.

Watson explained this decision in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying: “I can’t talk about my boyfriend in an interview and then expect people not to take paparazzi pictures of me walking around outside my home. You can’t have it both ways.” However, Watson has tacitly confirmed that since 2019 she has been dating American businessman Leo Robinton, who she met in her current home of New York.

6. Michael Gambon and Anne Gambon (and Philippa Hart)

Kenneth Branagh isn’t the only Harry Potter actor to find himself in the middle of a love triangle. 78-year-old Michael Gambon – who took over as Dumbledore from Richard Harris following Chamber of Secrets – has been married to his wife Anne since 1962, but he is also in an open relationship with set designer Philippa Hart, who is 25 years his junior.

Gambon and Hart share two children together and can regularly be seen picking up their kids from school. However, the actor remains married to Lady Anne, with whom he has one son. Consequently, Gambon splits his time between a £5 million country pile and the Chiswick apartment he shares with Hart.

7. Matthew Lewis and Angela Jones

Handsome former Neville Longbottom actor Matthew Lewis first met American events planner Angela Jones at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida in January 2016, and began dating a few months later. The two wed in Italy in 2018.

Jones later commented on her blog that she had “never believed in soul mates until we met. We came from two different countries, 4,334 miles apart, and yet we were one and the same.” The happy pair currently live in Southern California with their two dogs.

8. Ralph Fiennes (single)

Veteran actor Ralph Fiennes has been quite the ladies man in his time. During his marriage to actress Alex Kingston, Fiennes met Francesca Annis, an affair that prompted Kingston to divorce Fiennes in 1997. Fiennes and Annis would date until 2006, when Fiennes admitted to cheating on Annis with a Romanian singer half her age.

The drama didn’t stop there: in 2007, Fiennes faced scandal when it was discovered he had sex with a Qantas flight attendant on a flight from Sydney to Bombay. Fast forward to 2022 and it looks as though Fiennes is happy to be on his own after all of the drama.

9. Daniel Radcliffe and Erin Darke

Mr Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, has been dating fellow actor Erin Darke since 2012. The couple met on the set of Kill Your Darlings and struck up a romantic relationship not long after. Radcliffe has admitted that the pair had an ‘instant’ attraction to one another and that it was easy for him to film sexy scenes with his now-fiancée due to their chemistry.

Regarding his and Darke’s steamy Kill Your Darlings scenes, Radcliffe told Playboy magazine: “There’s no acting going on, not from my end, anyway.” The happy couple got engaged in March 2017 and can often be seen out and about in LA and London.

10. David Thewlis and Hermine Poitou

Remus Lupin actor David Thewlis met fellow actor Anna Friel on a flight to Cannes in 2000 and they started dating. Sadly, something went wrong down the line and the couple decided to split in 2010, but despite their differences the former couple have managed to maintain a very unconventional relationship.

After the split, Friel moved into the house opposite Thewlis’ in order to co-parent their daughter Gracie together. Friel has praised Thewlis’ parenting abilities, saying: “We’re the best of friends. It’s a bit unconventional, but we get on beautifully.” Thewlis married French designer Hermine Poitou on 5 August 2016, extending their unconventional happy family even further!

11. Warwick Davis and Samantha Davis

Warwick Davis actually played two roles in the Harry Potter franchise. While he portrayed Professor Flitwick in all the movies except Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, Davis also made an appearance as the Gringotts bank teller in the first film. In real life, Davis has enjoyed a stable and happy relationship with his wife of over 30 years, Samantha.

The couple first met on the set of Willow and married in 1991. Sadly they suffered tragedy early on in their marriage after losing their first son, Lloyd, to fatal complications resulting from two different conditions which cause dwarfism. Fortunately, the pair now have two healthy children together, the oldest of which, Annabelle, currently stars in the CBBC show The Dumping Ground.

12. Robbie Coltrane (single)

Robbie Coltrane has had his fair share of ups and downs when it comes to romance. The Scottish actor got hitched to Rhona Gemmell back in 1999 and the pair have two children together named Spencer and Alice. Sadly, the couple separated in 2003 and eventually divorced.

Coltrane must have taken the divorce hard, because the actor purposely kept away from the limelight in the years following and didn’t take on any other roles apart from that of gentle groundskeeper Hagrid. However, Coltrane has been slowly returning to his beloved profession as a single man, recently playing the legendary Orson Welles in the debut episode of Urban Myths.

13. Fiona Shaw and Sonali Deraniyagala

Being cast as the monstrous Petunia Dursely in the Harry Potter films wasn’t the only significant thing to happen in Fiona Shaw’s life in the 2000s. Since divorcing her husband in 2000 and coming out as gay in 2005, Shaw has found love several times, most recently with memoirist and economist Sonali Deraniyagala.

Deraniyagala met Shaw in 2018, and entered into a relationship with her despite only having dated men previously. Deraniyagala proposed just a few months after they started dating, and the pair got married later that same year. In even happier news, Fiona Shaw and her new wife had their first child in October 2021.

14. Tom Felton (single)

Tom Felton was with girlfriend Jade Olivia Gordon for eight years starting in 2008, having met on the set of the Harry Potter films where Jade worked as a stunt assistant. Gordon also bagged a role and starred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 as Astoria Greengrass, aka Felton’s on-screen wife.

Unfortunately, things didn’t last and sadly the couple broke up in 2016. Apparently there are no hard feelings and Felton and Gordon have managed to remain good friends. Tom is now single and looking for love, although he has been spotted by the paparazzi smooching a few different girls in the past year or so!

15. John Cleese and Jennifer Wade

John Cleese, who provided some comic relief in the Harry Potter movies with his portrayal of Nearly Headless Nick, went through three costly divorces before he met wife number four, Jennifer Wade, who at 32 years Cleese’s junior prompted more than a few raised eyebrows.

Still, Cleese is adamant that he’s found the one and even stated that he had never been in love before meeting Wade. The actor told one reporter: “It’s very nice to be in love at my age. It makes almost everything else seem relatively unimportant. I’ve never had that experience before. “I’ve never had this sort of connection before.” Fourth time’s a charm!

16. Helena Bonham Carter and Rye Holmboe

Helena Bonham Carter is well-known for her quirky dress sense and bizarre characters, so it came as little surprise when she entered into a relationship with director Tim Burton. The pair were together from 2001 to 2014, producing two children, but they never married and sadly ended their relationship after living separate lives for over a year.

It took four years for Bonham Carter to find love again, but she did eventually find her perfect match. After a chance meeting at a wedding, Bonham Carter immediately hit it off with Rye Holmboe, and the duo went public in 2019. They now live together and have even adopted a pair of house bunnies to keep them company.

17. Julie Walters and Grant Roffey

Before meeting her husband Grant Roffey, Molly Weasley actor Julie Walters had no intention of settling down. “I was going out and getting slaughtered on champagne and not having any kind of domestic life – until I met Grant in 1985, and it just stopped.” In fact, Walters met Roffey on a night out!

Walters was drunk in a Fulham bar and shouted something about nobody in the pub being a Labour supporter, when Roffey spoke up and promptly bought her a drink. Walters and Roffey moved into a farm together and have one daughter, Maisie. Walters has referred to Roffey as her rock and says that they’ve always supported each other’s dreams.

18. Richard Griffiths and Heather Gibson

Before the Vernon Dursley actor died in 2013 at the age of 65, Richard Griffiths enjoyed a long love affair with his wife Heather Gibson, whom he married in 1980.

Gibson, an Irish actress, reportedly entered into a relationship with Griffiths after they met each other during a production of Lady Windermere’s Fan in 1973. The couple had no children and since Griffiths’ death, Gibson has done her best to stay out of the limelight.

19. David Bradley and Rosanna Bradley

Argus Filch actor David Bradley often plays the villain, but in reality the actor has enjoyed a much more pleasant life compared to his nasty on-screen counterparts. Bradley has been happily married to wife Rosanna since 1978.

Bradley once revealed he and his wife’s simple weekend routine in an interview with the Telegraph, saying: “I slept until 11.30am and then tootled round the house with my wife Rosanna. On days off, I tend to be a bit lazy. I popped down to the supermarket, and caught up on my tax before eating Rosanna’s roast chicken around 7pm.”

20. Alfred Enoch and Aja Naomi King

Remember Alfred Enoch? He appeared in seven of the eight Harry Potter films as Gryffindor student Dean Thomas. Enoch has since made a name for himself in America in the hit murder mystery series How to Get Away with Murder. Alongside that success, the actor has also been lucky enough to find love in the form of his co-star, Aja Naomi King.

The pair have been spotted looking very cosy together on the red carpet and were even snapped at a night club with King sitting in Enoch’s lap. Whilst the celeb couple have never publicly confirmed that they’re dating, King remained extremely vague when E! reporters quizzed her on the potential romance. Time will tell if it’s easier to get away with love than murder!

21. Jason Isaacs and Emma Hewitt

Lucius Malfoy actor Isaacs has enjoyed a long and happy marriage to his wife Emma Hewitt, a documentary filmmaker. They’ve been together since 1988 and married in 2001, which means they’ve really been an item for over 30 years.

Isaacs has previously commented on the benefits of having a stable marriage, especially as an actor. The Harry Potter alum has stated that, unlike some of his fellow Hollywood celebrities, he doesn’t need an ‘interesting’ love life. Isaacs also admitted that his wife Emma is ready to go back to work again after raising their daughters Lily and Ruby.

22. Evanna Lynch (single)

Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch most recently dated hunky musician AnDel. The pair first met in 2017 and instantly hit it off, despite the fact that Lynch is a vegan activist while her boyfriend remained a ‘total meat-eater’.

Despite their differences, the couple remained together until relatively recently, when all evidence of their relationship disappeared from social media, with Lynch withdrawing from social media altogether. However, she did publish her memoirs in 2021, so she’s obviously keeping busy!

23. Alan Rickman and Rima Horton

Actor Alan Rickman sadly passed away in 2016 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind his wife Rima Horton, whom he wed in 2012.

The couple first met when Rickman was 19 years old and Horton was 18 – she later became a councillor for the Labour Party and eventually joined Kingston University as an Economics lecturer. They were together for over 50 years before the actor tragically passed away.

24. Maggie Smith and Beverley Cross

Maggie Smith got hitched to the playwright Beverley Cross in 1975 at the age of 41, and Cross became stepfather to Smith’s two children from her first marriage, actors Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens. Smith and Cross were together until Cross passed away in 1998, only three days before his 67th birthday.

Understandably, Smith has struggled to come to terms with losing the man she was married to for over two decades. When asked if she was lonely, the actress replied: “I don’t know. It seems a bit pointless. Going on one’s own and not having someone to share it with.”
