Despite the fact that JK Rowling’s Harry Potter universe is first and foremost designed for kids, there were plenty of relationships going on in the magical world.
Harry and Cho Chang’s short-lived romance experienced three books’ worth of build-up whilst Ron finally acted on his feelings for Hermione after years of resentment towards her ex-boyfriends (particularly Viktor Krum).
But what about the actors who portrayed Harry and co in the film series?
Now all grown up, Daniel Radcliffe and his fellow cast mates have had their fair share of romances and flings over the years, so here we’ve brought you a list of all the real-life partners (and in some cases ex-partners) of the Harry Potter cast.
1. Gary Oldman & Uma Thurman
First introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Gary Oldman entered the Harry Potter world as Sirius Black, Harry’s godfather.
But he had been a member of the acting fraternity long before then and was well-known for his roles in classic films such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Oldman is also known for his lengthy succession of wives – he recently got married for the fifth time, but did you know he was once married to actress Uma Thurman?
The fresh-faced pair met when they were just starting out in Hollywood and began dating after starring in State of Grace together. Sadly the relationship fizzled out and they divorced only two years later.
Oldman’s addiction to alcohol may have played a factor in the break-up and Thurman reportedly ended the marriage with a ‘Dear Gary’ letter.
She later stated that “It takes a special kind of woman to put up with him.” Yikes!
2. Rupert Grint & Georgia Groome
Good luck trying to get a decent photo of these two together!
Rupert Grint has reportedly had a highly secretive on-off relationship with actress Georgia Groome for several years now. Groome is an English actress best-known for her leading role as Georgia Nicolson in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008).
The couple have spent nearly a decade keeping their relationship away from the limelight but were recently spotted together at the Dinard Film Festival in September this year.
Groome has also been very supportive of her rumoured boyfriend’s career and has also been spotted watching him film scenes on the set of his show Snatch.
The paparazzi have managed to get a few snaps of them out and about in London, and in October last year one lucky Potter fan managed to take a picture with Rupert and Georgia at the premiere of Georgia’s film Double Date.
Despite previous break-ups, it looks as though the couple are firmly together again…for now!
3. Bonnie Wright & Simon Hammerstein
Odd couple Bonnie Wright – aka Harry Potter’s Ginny Weasley – and older man Simon Hammerstein have been dating since 2013. Hammerstein owns a series of erotic nightclubs and cabarets in Manhattan and has attracted his fair share of controversy over the years.
Many of his ex-employees have come forward to complain about the culture of drugs and harassment that Hammerstein encouraged at his clubs.
Allegations of sexual harassment and drug abuse have followed the owner round for years now but it didn’t look as though Wright was put off by the allegations – the pair reportedly got engaged in 2015 despite the eleven year age gap between them.
The actress commented to the Evening Standard: “We get on really well. That’s why we’re still together.
“It’s nice being with someone who respects the arts so we talk about everything together.”
At the moment it’s unclear what their relationship status is because the pair haven’t been snapped together for quite some time.
4. Emma Thompson & Kenneth Branagh
This one is a real Harry Potter affair (emphasis on the word ‘affair’). Emma Thompson played Sybill Trelawney in the franchise, whilst Kenneth Branagh famously appeared as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
But did you know that the pair were previously married for six years from 1989 to 1995?! The couple married in a lavish ceremony with Brian Blessed acting as best man and Judi Dench and Ben Elton amongst the celebrity guests in attendance.
Thompson and Branagh became the golden couple of the British acting world, but behind-the-scenes things weren’t as rosy as they seemed on the outside. Branagh ended up having an affair with none other than Helena Bonham Carter, who also appeared in the Harry Potter franchise as Bellatrix Lestrange!
Thompson has admitted that she suffered a lot of heartache after the betrayal but doesn’t hold a grudge against Bonham Carter any more.
She once stated in an interview that she didn’t have the energy to bear a grudge against Bonham Carter and added: “Helena and I made our peace years and years ago.”
5. Emma Watson & Chord Overstreet
Emma Watson is notoriously private about her love life. The Potter actress refuses to discuss her boyfriends in interviews, so it’s left to us to try and work out all the details!
Watson has been linked to a string of different men in recent years, but it looks as though things have really been getting serious with Glee actor Chord Overstreet in the past few months.
The showbiz couple were spotted leaving a Vanity Fair Oscars party in March this year and one source later confirmed that the pair had been “dating for a little bit now.”
Aww! In May this year, rumours emerged that the couple had split up after six months of dating, but the celebrity couple were pictured back together again and looking happy this summer.
Back in 2011, Watson confessed that she had previously had a little crush on her Harry Potter co-star Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the franchise. We don’t blame her!
6. Michael Gambon & Anne Gambon (& Philippa Hart)
Kenneth Branagh isn’t the only Harry Potter actor to find himself in the middle of a love triangle. Michael Gambon – who plays Dumbledore in the series, having taken over from Richard Harris after The Philosopher’s Stone (aka Sorcerer’s Stone) and Chamber of Secrets – has an extremely odd ‘arrangement’ when it comes to matters of the heart.
The 78 year old has been married to his wife Anne since 1962, but he is also in an open relationship with set designer Philippa Hart who is 25 years his junior.
The couple share two children together and can regularly be seen picking up their kids from school. However, the actor remains married to his wife Lady Anne.
Consequently Gambon splits his time between a £5 million country pile and the Chiswick apartment he shares with his mistress – an odd arrangement, to say the least.
Reports suggest that Anne is devastated by the betrayal but has learnt to accept that her husband is having his extra-marital cake and eating it too.
7. Matthew Lewis & Angela Jones
Have you seen Neville Longbottom now? Matthew Lewis may have played the perennially dumped-on Longbottom in the franchise, but luckily the actor has had a much better time when it comes to the ladies.
Hunky actor Lewis stunned Potter fans when he shed the weight he had piled on for the role of Neville Longbottom and got himself a hardened six pack instead. Well it turns out he’s also got himself a brand new wife in the form of American events planner Angela Jones. The newlyweds first met at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida in January 2016 and began dating a few months later.
Jones later commented on her blog that she had “never believed in soul mates until we met. We came from two different countries, 4,334 miles apart, and yet we were one and the same.”
Aw! The couple met after Jones was handling a VIP event at Universal – Lewis was one of the VIPs in attendance and the two quickly hit it off.
The happy pair got married in Italy earlier this year and currently live in Southern California with their two dogs.
8. Ralph Fiennes & Francesca Annis
Veteran actor Ralph Fiennes was quite the ladies man in his day.
Fiennes has had a chequered love life in previous years – he met his long-term partner Francesca Annis in the mid 90s and they dated for 11 years until he admitted to cheating on Annis with a Romanian dancer half her age. Whoops! Both Annis and Fiennes later admitted that the 18 year age gap between them hadn’t helped things.
Before that, Fiennes was married to veteran ER actress Alex Kingston from 1993 to 1997 but eventually left her for Annis. Kingston was devastated by the divorce, publicly proclaimed that she still loved her ex-husband and eventually had to flee London to avoid seeing him with another woman.
Fast forward to 2018 and it looks as though Fiennes is happy to be on his own after all of the drama involving his ex-partners.
The Voldemort actor has admitted in interviews that he prefers his own company and isn’t interested in a love life at the moment, despite being occasionally photographed out and about with different women.
9. Daniel Radcliffe & Erin Darke
Mr Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe has been dating fellow actor Erin Darke since 2012.
The couple first met on the set of Kill Your Darlings and struck up a romantic relationship not long after meeting. Radcliffe has previously admitted that the pair had an ‘instant’ attraction to one another and that it was easy for him to film sexy scenes with his now-fiancée due to the chemistry between them.
In one scene from the movie, Erin plays a librarian who has to seduce Daniel’s character – and in reality it seems as though he was more than happy to oblige! Radcliffe told Playboy magazine:
“That’s a wonderful record of us flirting for the first time. There’s no acting going on, not from my end, anyway.”
The happy couple got engaged in March 2017 and can often be seen out and about in LA and London.
10. David Thewlis & Anna Friel
What about the real life partner of David Thewlis aka the werewolf and Hogwarts professor Remus Lupin?
Thewlis met fellow actor Anna Friel on a flight to Cannes in 2000 and they instantly started dating. However, something went wrong down the line and sadly the couple decided to split up in 2010. However, despite their differences the former couple have managed to maintain a very unconventional relationship.
After the split, Friel moved into the house opposite Thewlis in order to co-parent their ten year old daughter Gracie together. Friel has praised Thewlis’ parenting abilities:
“He’s a great dad and lives just across the road. We’re the best of friends. It’s a bit unconventional, but we get on beautifully.”
Whatever works for them! Thewlis’ current relationship status is unclear – there’s no word on whether he’s managed to find love again since breaking up with Friel.
11. Warwick Davis & Samantha Davis
Warwick Davis actually played two roles in the Harry Potter franchise.
Davis portrayed Professor Flitwick in all of the movies except Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, but he also made an appearance as the Gringotts bank teller in the first film. Did you spot him? In real life, Davis has enjoyed a stable and happy relationship with his wife of 27 years, Samantha.
The couple first met on the set of Willow and married in 1991 (Samantha is the daughter of Warwick’s business partner, Peter Burroughs).
Sadly they suffered tragedy early on in their marriage after losing their first two children to a fatal combination of two different conditions which cause dwarfism.
Fortunately they now have two healthy children together, one of whom currently stars in a CBBC show entitled The Dumping Ground.
12. Robert Pattinson & FKA Twigs
Before Robert Pattinson became Edward Cullen, he starred in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Cedric Diggory. Diggory met a grisly fate in the end, but his brief appearance as the good-looking Hogwarts student was enough to send Potter fans into overdrive.
In reality, after a much-publicised romance with ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart, Pattinson started dating FKA Twigs. The couple bonded over their love of music and quickly became an item.
The couple started dating in 2015 and weren’t together for two long before getting engaged – or so we thought. In classic awkward Pattinson style, the actor said he and Twigs were ‘kind of’ set to walk down the aisle together when speaking to a reporter in 2017.
Apparently things came to an end after the Twilight hunk grew tired of the fact that they were growing apart.
Since then, rumours have swirled that Pattinson has been dating Mabel, a singer-songwriter from Sweden, but they haven’t officially confirmed a romance just yet.
13. Robbie Coltrane & Rhona Gemmell
Robbie Coltrane has had his fair share of ups and downs when it comes to romance. The Scottish actor got hitched to Rhona Gemmell back in 1999 and the pair have two children together named Spencer and Alice.
Sadly the couple separated in 2003 and eventually got divorced. In 2008, rumours swirled that the former husband and wife duo had reunited but it looks as though the reconciliation was short-lived.
Coltrane must have taken the divorce hard, because the actor purposely kept away from the limelight in the years following the divorce and didn’t take on any other roles apart from that of the gentle groundskeeper.
However, it looks as though Cupid might have struck once again for the Scottish actor…
The Mirror has reported that Coltrane is now quietly dating a mystery woman. Good luck to him!
14. Fiona Shaw & Saffron Burrows
Fiona Shaw is an Irish actress whose major role came in 2001 when she burst onto the screen as Petunia Dursley.
Unlike her on-screen counterpart, Shaw is a lesbian and came out as gay in 2005. The news came as a bit of a shock, particularly since Shaw has two daughters with her ex-husband. However, since divorcing her former partner in 2000, Shaw has found love again with Saffron Burrows, a British-American actress.
Burrows represented Shaw’s first ever ‘out’ relationship and the couple were snapped out and about on various occasions. The show biz pair reportedly met on the set of The Powerbook, a 2002 adaptation of a novel by Jeannette Winterson.
Things were made all the more interesting by the fact that Burrows was living with Mike Figgis, a man who had left his wife and children to be with the actress.
Oops! Sadly things didn’t last for Shaw and Burrows either, and Shaw’s relationship status is currently unclear.
15. Tom Felton & Jade Olivia Gordon
Tom Felton was with his long-term girlfriend Jade Olivia Gordon for eight years between 2008 and 2016.
They met on the set of Harry Potter after Jade began work as a stunt assistant on the set of the famous franchise, and afterwards the couple were regularly snapped by the paparazzi walking the red carpet together.
Gordon also bagged a film role of her own and starred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 as Astoria Greengrass aka Felton’s on-screen wife. However, things didn’t last and sadly the couple broke up in 2016 after eight years together.
Apparently there’s no hard feelings though and they’ve managed to remain good friends.
Tom is now single and looking for love, although he has been spotted by the paparazzi smooching a few different girls in the past year or so!
16. John Cleese & Jennifer Wade
John Cleese is another Harry Potter actor who can’t seem to stop getting married.
Cleese provided some comic relief in the movies with his portrayal of Nearly Headless Nick, the Hogwarts ghost who stalks the corridors of the castle trying to keep his nearly-severed head upright. In reality, Cleese has suffered a number of costly divorces over the years and is currently married to wife number four, Jennifer Wade.
Cleese raised a few eyebrows when he got hitched to Wade, who is 32 years his junior. However, Cleese is adamant that he’s found the one and even stated that he had never been in love before meeting Jennifer.
The actor told one reporter: “It’s very nice to be in love at my age. It makes almost everything else seem relatively unimportant. I’ve never had that experience before.
“I’ve never had this sort of connection before.” Fourth time’s a charm!
17. Helena Bonham Carter & Tim Burton
First introduced in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Helena Bonham Carter has had her fair share of romantic misery in the past.
The British actress is well-known for her quirky dress sense and weird film characters (Bellatrix Lestrange being one of them), so it’s no surprise she was in a serious long-term relationship with director Tim Burton from 2001 to 2014. The couple never married and sadly ended their relationship after living separate lives for over a year.
Just to rub salt into the wound, Burton was later snapped by paparazzi kissing a mystery woman whilst filming on location in Italy. Bonham Carter described the grief she felt at the end of their relationship:
“It is a death of a relationship, so it’s utterly bewildering. Your identity, everything, changes.”
At the moment it looks as though Bonham Carter is a single lady!
18. Julie Walters & Grant Roffey
Julie Walters played the doting Weasley matriarch, and in reality she’s not far off that with her beloved husband Grant Roffey.
Walters has always state that before she met Roffey, she had no intention of settling down. “‘I was going out and getting slaughtered on champagne and not having any kind of domestic life – until I met Grant in 1985, and it just stopped.” In fact, Walters met Roffey on a night out when they had both had a few drinks…
Walters was drunk in a Fulham bar and shouted something about nobody in the pub being a Labour supporter. Roffey spoke up and said that he did vote Labour, before promptly buying her a drink – the rest is history!
Walters and Roffey moved into a farm together and have one daughter, Maisie, their only child.
Walters has referred to Roffey as her rock and says that they’ve always supported each other’s dreams. Aww!
19. Daniel Radcliffe & Olive Uniacke
Before getting engaged, Daniel Radcliffe enjoyed a fair few romances.
And one of those romances was with party girl Olive Uniacke, a ‘trustafarian’ rich kid who helped fuel Radcliffe’s hard-drinking ways. Uniacke is the step-daughter of David Heyman, the multi-millionaire producer of the Harry Potter films, and she’s been prominent in the New York party scene for years.
The pair met in 2010 on the set of the Harry Potter films and quickly began dating. Olive was pictured drinking with the actor on several occasions before he decided to give up the booze for good.
Their relationship began to fizzle out after Uniacki moved away from the US to begin work in the UK, leaving Radcliffe behind on Broadway.
The pair called it quits and the actor subsequently dated Rosie Coker.
20. Gary Oldman & Gisele Schmidt
The fifth time’s the charm for Gary Oldman!
Or is it? Oldman divorced his fourth wife in 2015 after seven years together, and swiftly began seeing writer and art curator Gisele Schmidt before the proceedings had even come to an end.
Now reports have emerged that the 60-year-old actor quietly tied the knot with Schmidt in a private ceremony some time last year.
Apparently the Sirius Black actor is also a keen photographer and met Gisele after she wrote a book about his work. Oldman clearly hasn’t given up on love (or marriage) and the pair have been snapped together on the red carpet looking very happy together in recent years.
The secret wedding supposedly took place at the house of Douglas Urbanski, Gisele’s manager.
Let’s hope Oldman can wave a magic wand if he runs into trouble this time round.
21. Richard Griffiths & Heather Gibson
Richard Griffiths gave a memorable portrayal in the franchise as Vernon Dursley.
Sadly the actor died at the age of 65 after complications from heart surgery and we don’t know too much about his wife Heather, whom he married in 1980.
Gibson is an Irish actress and it’s reported that the couple started a relationship after meeting each other during a production of Lady Windermere’s Fan in 1973.
The couple had no children and since Griffiths’ death, Gibson has done her best to stay out of the limelight.
However, The Telegraph once revealed in an interview with the famous actor that Gibson used to become irritated when Griffiths would start moaning about the lot of the actor.
Apparently his moaning about the pressures of fame used to drive her ‘nuts’ – sounds like she did her best to keep him grounded!
22. Emma Watson & William ‘Mack’ Knight
Emma Watson has previously been linked to tech entrepreneur William ‘Mack’ Knight.
In fact, they were together for over two years, with Watson reportedly enjoying the fact that Knight wasn’t a Hollywood celeb type.
One source told The Sun: “Mack is just a normal, down-to-earth guy who has nothing to do with Hollywood, and Emma loves that. She was left really hurt by her break-up with Matthew [Janney] and it’s taken her more than a year to feel ready to start again with somebody.
“They’re really happy with each other and see each other whenever Emma does not have work commitments.” Sadly though, despite being spotted around London and LA together several times, the relationship just didn’t stay the course.
Things had been getting serious after Knight introduced the actress to his parents, but they ended up breaking things off anyway.
Explaining her decision to keep things on the down-low, Watson stated: “I’ve noticed, in Hollywood, who you’re dating gets tied up into your film promotion and becomes part of the performance and the circus.
“I would hate anyone that I were with to feel like they were in any way part of a show or an act.”
23. David Bradley & Rosanna Bradley
Who can forget David Bradley’s memorable turn as Argus Filch?
He was the frustrated Squib who stalked the corridors of Hogwarts with his creepy cat Mrs Norris. But in reality, actor Bradley has a much more pleasant life when compared to his on-screen counterpart, especially in the romance department. Bradley has been married to his wife Rosanna for several years.
And it looks as though having a wife has come in handy for Bradley, especially when you consider that he’s absolutely terrified of heights.
The actor once revealed that Rosanna used to have to go into the attic because he couldn’t handle the vertigo: “My wife Rosanna used to have to climb up to the loft while I held the ladder.” Aww!
He also revealed he and his wife’s weekend routine in an interview with the Telegraph: “I slept until 11.30am and then tootled round the house with my wife Rosanna.
On days off, I tend to be a bit lazy. I popped down to the supermarket, and caught up on my tax before eating Rosanna’s roast chicken around 7pm.” Sounds delicious!
24. Bonnie Wright & Jamie Campbell Bower
Bonnie Wright once had her very own Harry Potter romance.
Wright became spellbound with Jamie Campbell Bower on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, when Bower appeared as the young Grindelwald. The pair began dating in 2010 and got engaged six months later in April 2011. Sadly though the magic must have worn off because they called time on the relationship in June 2012.
Bower confessed that he was ‘devastated’ by the break-up after Wright moved out of their London home.
The actor had previously revealed that they had started planning their wedding together: “I am engaged. I’m very happy. It’s a wonderful, wonderful time.
We are [planning], but I won’t say when and I won’t say where. Or how.”
Aw! It looks as though Bower is single and looking at the moment whilst Wright is possibly still dating her boyfriend Simon Hammerstein.
25. Alfred Enoch and Aja Naomi King
Remember Alfred Enoch? He appeared in seven of the eight Harry Potter films as Gryffindor student Dean Thomas.
However, fans of the franchise might be interested to learn that Enoch has now made a name for himself in America in the hit murder mystery series How to Get Away With Murder.
And alongside that success the actor has also been lucky enough to find love in the form of his co-star, Aja Naomi King.
The pair have been spotted looking very cosy together on the red carpet and were even snapped at a night club with King sitting in Enoch’s lap.
Whilst the celeb couple have never publicly confirmed that they’re dating, King remained extremely vague when E! reporters quizzed her on the potential romance.
For now we’ll just have to wait and see how this one plays out…
26. Jason Isaacs & Emma Hewitt
Who can forget Jason Isaacs as the long-haired Lucius Malfoy (aka everybody’s secret crush!)? Unlike some of his Harry Potter co-stars, Isaacs has enjoyed a long and happy marriage to his wife Emma Hewitt, a documentary filmmaker.
They’ve been together since 1988 and eventually got married in 2001, which means they’ve really been an item for over thirty years. At the moment they’re living in North London with their daughters.
Isaacs has previously commented on the benefits of having a stable marriage, especially as an actor. The Harry Potter alum has stated that, unlike some of his fellow Hollywood celebrities, he doesn’t need an ‘interesting’ love life – instead he can explore extremes in his day job.
Isaacs also admitted that his wife Emma is ready to go back to work again after raising their daughters Lily and Ruby.
“She [Emma] stopped working when the kids came. Our youngest is five and she’s ready to work again.” Good luck to them both!
27. Evanna Lynch & Andel
Harry Potter fans will remember that Evanna Lynch played quirky character Luna Lovegood in the films.
Irish actress Lynch is currently dating a hunky musician who goes by the name of ‘AnDel’. The pair first met in 2017 and seem to be getting along just fine, despite the fact that Lynch is a vegan activist whilst her new boyfriend is a ‘total meat-eater’. However, despite their differences the couple seem to have worked out a good system when they want to eat out together.
She told the Irish Independent: “I have certain rules like he’s not allowed to eat baby animals when I’m around, so no lamb. But he always goes to vegan restaurants with me as well.”
The couple are very active on social media and have previously referred to each other as ‘best friends’ so it looks as though things are going swimmingly at the moment
Before meeting Andel, Lynch temporarily found love on the set Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in 2007 when she got together with Robbie Jarvis (who played young James Potter in the film).
The pair split in 2016 after several years together.
28. Katie Leung & Leo Ku
Cho Chang didn’t exactly have a good track record when it came to relationships.
Her first boyfriend, Cedric Diggory, was murdered by Lord Voldemort and her second love, Harry Potter, didn’t really have time to commit to a long-term relationship whilst he was trying to save the Wizarding world. Away from the screen, Scottish actress Katie Leung has had her fair share of heartache too.
Leung hasn’t had that many high-profile relationships, but she did start dating Leo Ku – a musician from Hong Kong – in February 2008.
The couple met whilst Ku was filming a music video in England, but things didn’t last for very long after Ku moved back to his home country and rumour has it the relationship only lasted for a month.
The 15 year age gap might also have had something to do with things.
29. Emma Watson & Matthew Janney
Emma Watson’s first major relationship came with Oxford University rugby player Matthew Janney.
The couple met in 2013 and dated for a year before parting ways in 2014. At the time, they blamed things on Watson’s busy work schedule and said that the relationship had ended ‘amicably’.
However, Watson (who is normally fiercely private) admitted that the split left her so heartbroken that she had to admit herself to a silent retreat in Canada’s Rocky Mountains.
Watson revealed that “I felt really uncomfortable. I went on a silent retreat in Canada’s Rocky Mountains to help me come to terms with the breakdown of the relationship.”
However, the actress is convinced that her boyfriends have been able to handle the pressures that come with dating a Hollywood star.
“I certainly haven’t found that with doing all that I do or being all that I am, that I’ve struggled in my love life. I just think it’s very patronizing towards men. It undermines them.”
30. Alan Rickman & Rima Horton
Actor Alan Rickman sadly passed away in 2016 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
He left behind his wife Rima Horton, whom he wed in 2012. The couple first met when Rickman was 19 years old and Horton was 18 – she later became a councillor for the Labour Party and eventually joined Kingston University as an economics lecturer.
They were together for over 50 years before the actor tragically passed away.
Rima has remained tight-lipped on how she is coping with the grief of losing her husband, and instead has allowed Rickman’s friends to pay tribute to the actor instead.
Following the actor’s death, J K Rowling stated “There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.”
Daniel Radcliffe also added that Rickman was one of the greatest actors he had ever worked with.
31. Maggie Smith & Beverley Cross
Maggie Smith has suffered her own share of sadness when it comes to romance.
Smith first married in 1967 to Robert Stephens, before divorcing him in 1975. She then got hitched to the playwright Beverley Cross that very same year at Guildford Registry office. This raised some eyebrows at the time – Cross was still married when he proposed to the 18-year-old Smith, but the pair later stated it was love at first sight.
They were together until Cross passed away in 1998, only three days before his 67th birthday.
Understandably, Smith has struggled to come to terms with losing the man she was married to for over two decades. When asked if she was lonely, the actress replied: “I don’t know. It seems a bit pointless. Going on one’s own and not having someone to share it with.”
“Jane Birkin’s mother Judy Campbell once said an extraordinary thing to me when her husband died; that it was a strange feeling you were not number one with anybody.”
The actress also added: “Everybody says it gets better, but I don’t think it does. It gets different.”
32. Ray Fearon & Elle Macpherson
You might not recognise Ray Fearon thanks to the special effects team working on the Harry Potter films…
Fearon actually played Firenze the centaur in the first ever movie, but don’t worry – in real life he doesn’t have the body of a horse.
In fact, he’s quite the ladies man and once started dating Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson! Macpherson split up with her long-term partner in 2005 and soon grew close to actor Fearon.
They were spotted on some very cosy dinner dates around London, with one onlooker telling News of the World: “They were having a wonderful time, Ray was making Elle laugh and she looked like she didn’t want the evening to end.” The romance lasted for just under a year before the pair decided to call it quits.
Sounds like he might have just been a rebound but hey, if you’re going to be somebody’s rebound it might as well be Elle Macpherson’s.
