Being cheated on is one of the worst feelings in the world. That moment when your heart drops as you realise your partner isn’t the person you thought they were has got to be one of the most painful thing anyone can experience. People find out about unfaithful partners in various ways – sometimes they come clean; sometimes the ‘other person’ ends up letting you know; or sometimes, things come to light in a much more dramatic way.
Here are Reddit’s craziest stories of the moments people found their partners cheating on them.
1. Poor woman
I was 8 months pregnant with our second child at the time and he wanted to go visit his brother for the weekend. I asked my doctor if it was safe for me to travel and she said it would be fine. I told my husband I could go but he said he was really hoping to just have some time with his brother, I understood because a new baby really makes it hard to spend quality time but I asked if he could take our older son (3yo at the time) so he could see his grandma and cousins.
He said they were planning on drinking and whatnot and wasn’t sure it would be a good idea. (They’re country boys so think shooting, drinking and whatnot) I agreed and he left for the weekend. After he left I get a call from his best friend telling me that he’ll be in town for the weekend and he wanted to meet up, not weird he called me because my husband was terrible at answering his phone.
I told him unfortunately my husband was visiting back home, bad timing. His best friend then said ok, I’m going to call you back. And hung up very abruptly. Turns out my husband and his wife had been caught by him a few months previously and he gave them a chance to make it right…I don’t know why. He didn’t tell me but threatened to if they didn’t stop.
Well, they didn’t stop and he told me. I think the worst part was that my husband’s family knew and never once thought to tell me. These people were my family for 5 years and nothing. It’s been almost 10 years now and I’m so much happier but it was definitely an eye opening experience.
2. Keeping it in the family
Worst one I know of is an acquaintance of mine, came home from work one day and found his missus having sex with his dad. That blew up all over Facebook, and became a local drama fest where people tried to organise a shunning of the dad and missus. I remember it well because, well… I know people cheat, but with your partner’s father? Come on.
3. Serious sleuthing
Wife was acting unusual for a few weeks. She would want to spend time by herself on the weekends and when she came home at night from work she would often sit in the driveway for 20 minutes on the phone. I’m not dumb. I bought a voice activated digital recorder and stuck it in her car. I knew what I needed to know in less than 24 hours.
4. Plot twist
I was in the Navy and was out on deployment for 6 months after just recently getting engaged (it’s one of those stupid things that young military guys do). One day I get a letter from my fiancée’s best friend telling me that she caught my fiancée and her BF together (this was years before email and smartphones were common).
We write back and forth several times and eventually it comes out how she caught them, how my fiancée begged her not to tell me, and that the fiancée didn’t know that we were corresponding. I eventually get back to the States and planned to play it off as though I didn’t know, but too many of my friends intercepted me with the news that is wasn’t just the one guy, but several, and let me know that she knew that I was aware.
Eventually we met, and the confrontation was minimal and tame. We broke off the engagement without a lot of drama – she kept the ring. The best friend and I ended up hooking up, at first as sort of a revenge-f*** kinda thing, but turned serious. We celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary this year.
5. Heartbroken
My best friend was friends with my gf and her roommates. Word got to my friend about her bringing some dude home after a party and my friend eventually spilled to me. As she said “I really don’t want to tell you this and I know this will crush you, but I can’t keep this from you.”
After she dropped the bomb I was like “Hell no! That would never happen!” and then I confronted by gf about it that night who broke down and confessed everything. I stayed with that girl for another 7 months and God bless my friend for sticking by my side and supporting the whole way.
When I finally ended things, my best friend was still there to support me and care for me. Also haven’t dated anyone for longer than 6 months since that happened 7 years ago…
6. A chance encounter
We were together for 5 years, living together for around 4. I came home from work early. When I got out of my car I saw her peek through the blinds to see who was outside. I walked in the door to her coworker on the couch, obviously uncomfortable and clothes messy and her locked in the bathroom.
I wanted to pummel the s*** out of him then and there, but he was a trained MMA fighter, and I woulda left the house that night with more than a broken heart. Went to a friend’s house for a while. They started dating the next day. S*** sucks. It took a while for me to get trust back in relationships.
7. A family affair
She confessed to her mom… then mother-in-law called her other daughter and told her…sister-in-law then called me and told me. She let me listen in on a three way call to her mom and tried to convince mom to tell me but she refused which basically confirmed it.
8. How horrible
He went to Hawaii for a business trip without his wife and kids. Like a good wife, I packed his clothes before he left and unpacked his dirty laundry when he returned home. I found a tiny pair of white cotton panties (no lace) in his suitcase. He had recently dropped a lot of weight (>100 lbs) and played it off that he had bought them for himself…. they had no label and were simple bikinis so theoretically could have been men’s as well.
It did sort of explain the pretty brunette that followed him off the plane at the airport and kept looking at my kids and I at the luggage carousel (what an a** to make his side piece come face to face with his wife and kids). I made sure he wore those panties at least once a week for the remaining few months we were together (I set out his clothes everyday and he couldn’t protest).
9. A gradual realisation
It wasn’t a big dam-breaking moment. It was a lot of little things. Like how she’d cancel plans at the last second. Or the random phone calls from unknown numbers she’d get (this was back before spam calls were an epidemic), or how her phone was mysteriously off one night when I needed to get a hold of her.
I had my suspicions and then finally it clicked into place when I did some Instagram snooping and found a guy who followed her who posted a selfie wearing a very unique jacket that belonged to her. I confronted her the next day. She denied it. Tears. Begging. All of that. I dumped her and walked away. The next day I messaged that guy on Instagram and he confirmed everything. Had no idea I existed. He dumped her too.
10. Karma got them
4yrs ago I was dating a girl who became distant and disinterested in a lot of things we both enjoyed together. Despite attempts to talk about it, she only grew more distant then became less available to hang out and suddenly was working late a lot. I started getting suspicious about cheating when she was on her phone nonstop.
Again I tried to talk about it but she wouldn’t engage. She also just didn’t want to break up with me for whatever reason. I was actually going to end it on my own, but one weekend when she was seemingly unavailable, some mutual friends told me they spotted her with a dude from her work and they were all over each other.
Coincidentally, she had also lent me her iPad and it was synced to her phone so I saw lots of texts between those two over that weekend. They were talking about running away together, etc. He was married and her supervisor. Mutual friends were also composed of her coworkers and reported them to HR.
They were both forced to do training on not sleeping with coworkers, they were both denied promotion, his wife left him, and she moved overseas. Sucked at the time, I was devastated, but karma got them good.
11. Going to see a ‘friend’
My mom had a boyfriend when my parents met, and she broke up with him to be with my dad. Fast forward ten years or so my parents are married with two kids: my older brother and me. Anyway, she travels for work semi-often and she started taking trips to see her “friend” in Chicago.
I was young enough that I don’t really remember when it started, but my I noticed that my dad was really irritable on these weekends. I think I was about twelve when I realized what was going on. I figured it out before my brother did. I used to sit at the top of the stairs and listen to my parents argue.
I don’t even remember if I heard something that gave it away, if it slowly dawned on me as I grew up, or if one day it just hit me. It’s always just been a part of my life that my mom lies. Still is. My dad used to beg me to not say anything to her that I knew because A) he was desperate to keep the family together and 2) my mom would get on his case for getting the kids involved. No joke.
One day, during the summer after I graduated high school, I came home from work to find my mom in the garage loading up her car. I asked her why she was putting blankets in her car and she got quiet for a moment and said “well… I’m moving out.” I just went inside. Later she texted my dad that she had moved to her brother’s house. That’s how he found out.
12. Never saw him again
June 1, 2018. Normal day. A Friday. My husband had kissed me goodbye and gone to work. I was cleaning the house for company who was coming to stay the weekend. The doorbell rang. There was a man at my door who introduced himself as the husband of a woman who my husband worked with. He was there to tell me that my husband and his wife were having an affair.
He had busted them about six months prior and had told his wife that she had to end the affair. He thinks that she did end it…for about three months, but then they started up again. When he found out they were at it again, he called my husband (because he knew if he confronted him in person, he’d be in a jail cell for what he’d have done).
On the phone, he told my husband to leave his wife alone or else he would come and tell me everything that was happening. Apparently, my husband thought that he was bluffing. So I was literally the last to know. My husband never came home again. He got an air b’n’b and a lawyer. The divorce was December 21, 2018. We had been together for 24 years. Still hurts.
13. Found out at work
I was at work, as was he, and a man came through the doors and asked for me directly. I introduced myself and he said “Hello, my name is XYZ and your husband has been having an affair with my wife”. It was 8 days to our 3 yr anniversary. The affair had been ongoing for 6 months and he had a slew of evidence to prove it.
We had lunch together, where he explained everything to me. His wife of 12 years, having 4 children together. I confronted my husband that night and he didn’t even attempt to deny it, he wasn’t even sorry. I moved out with our 2 yr old daughter that night and we were divorced 3 months later. It’s been 9 years now and still blows my mind.
14. A living nightmare
I owned a house with my fiancé. I woke up in the middle of the night and he wasn’t in bed. I went searching. His truck and another vehicle were in the driveway. Then, I went upstairs and found the guest bedroom was locked. After barging my way in… I found him with another woman in bed. That bed happened to be my childhood bed.
He forced me out of the room… literally grabbed me by the neck and pushed me out and closed the door back. I knew I couldn’t do anything at that point, so I called his parents who lived a few blocks away. His dad showed up and another fight broke out.
I ended up leaving and staying at his parents’ house until dawn. I moved out that weekend and let the house foreclose. Nine years later… the house is finally off my credit report, I’m happily married to an amazing man and we own a beautiful home together.
15. That’s got to hurt
The husband of one of the women he was cheating on me with called me at work. At first I didn’t believe him and hung up. How could the man I spent the past 8 years with, had 2 beautiful babies with, suffered together the loss of one of those children do something so hurtful?? Still a part of me had doubt.
He had affairs in other relationships and we had a rocky patch early in the beginning where I suspected an affair but didn’t have proof. I told my boss I felt sick and had to leave early and I called this guy back and found out that my ex and his wife along with one of their friends were all sleeping together for about a year.
He had confronted my ex and told him that he was going to tell me but my ex convinced him to wait a month since my mother had just died. I took my time coming home and confronted him and told him to pack and leave. Since I’ve pieced together a lot of what happened and all the lies he told me where if I was in a different headspace I might have caught on to the affairs earlier.
I also found videos hidden on one of our computers and found out he was having bootycalls in our apartment while I was at work and he was watching our daughter. At that point it put the headstone on any possibility of reconciliation.
16. Ran away from home
Classic love at first sight. I love you after 2 weeks. Moved in together after 2 months. Engaged after 6. Been together for 4 years and change. Left my rent control bachelor pad and picked a bigger apartment so she could have her art studio. Did everything together and split all bills 50/50. We had different jobs in the same industry and made around the same money.
We really loved each other and, as cliche as it sounds, completed each other: I am very analytical and stoic and she is a liberal artist. She goes to ComiCon in NYC (she is an expositor) I help her pack. I drop her at the airport. Everything was fine. No signs of anything. She should be back in 4 days. She never came back home.
She simple disappeared. Ghosted. The day she should be home I freak out that she may be dead just to find myself blocked on everything: email, phone, social media, the works. Everything I know is due to the bills she left behind (all unpaid) the credit card we shared (she stopped paying 2 months before) and her cell phone bill (which T-Mobile was nice enough to give me a log because technically was on my SSN).
Found one particular NYC area code over and over on the call history and put 2+2 together. She met him on San Diego ComiCon few months before and methodically and systematically put together a plan to abandon me, take as much as she could to NYC and never look back.
17. Dodged a bullet
I found out at the ultrasound to determine the gender of our child. He was late and I was noodling on Facebook waiting to be called. He was tagged in some photos in my news feed from a gig he’d been at on the previous weekend. Random lass was in all the photos of him and they were all over each other. Also they were making out in the background of one photo.
He turned up after I was called in. While the technician was printing the images I told him I knew. He went off and on about how I was making it up, he’d never do that, obviously I was lying to compensate for cheating on him and so on. When I pointed out there were photos he stormed out and left me there.
My Dad had turned up during the appointment (anticipating that he’d react badly if we were having a girl, which he did, that was scattered through the cheating denials) and took me home. I considered us broken up at that point and stopped all contact except texts related to the pregnancy.
18. Found out from the other woman
Funnily enough the girl he was cheating on me with actually told me. She messaged me at 3 in the morning asking if I was still with my ex and I said yes he’s asleep next to me, why? She told me what happened, sent me screen shots and I grabbed his phone. I believed her but ya know just wanted to see it all for myself.
I left the room and looked through it all, he didn’t even try to hide it. I went back in threw something at him to wake him up and confronted him, of course he played dumb. Said he didn’t know who I was talking about blah blah blah. Then I said oh ok well maybe this will jog your memory and pulled his phone out of my pocket.
The look on his face was priceless. He knew it was over. I screamed at him, I called him every name under the sun and then he left the house. This was a year ago now, and then a few months after that I’m being told that he misses me, f*****g pathetic.
19. Caught in the act
I couldn’t find my then wife after she got off work one afternoon/evening. I tried to call her cell phone with no answer. She didn’t show up to the house until 9:30 pm. She weaved some tale about getting stuck in traffic. I did some sleuthing and pulled the State Farm good driving app up which tracks your movements.
I found out she had been leaving work early, going to the nearby rest area off of the expressway, and having sex with a 20-something trucker she met at her previous job. I decided to interrupt the festivities one afternoon. I showed up to the rest area, parked in front of his rig, and jumped right up to the door.
The cabin shade was drawn. I withdrew the shades and saw my loving ex wife […] He had the gall to tell me to give them privacy. I didn’t handle it very well. I promptly filed for divorce. The icing on the cake is that a few months after I left, she cheated on her new trucker friend and is well on her way to her 7th “friend”.
20. An awful story
Was (~6 months in) recovering from being hit by an SUV as a pedestrian that left me with a severe TBI (GCS of 4), broken back (3 places), legs (two places), and pelvis (2 places). I had moved back in with my then-GF for about a week when we went to a party and I got left at the party because she couldn’t find me.
I didn’t know any of these people as they were all her friends and none of them could help me get home when I was told she left with the group we arrived with. I managed to walk back to the apartment quite drunk, tired, and in pain from over using my still recovering injuries; banged on the door till my knuckles bled only to have a dude answer the door, let me in, and then he proceeded to crawl back into bed next to her, in my bed. I didn’t have the cognitive ability to deal with that.
So I laid down right on the floor next to the bed and and passed out. She broke up with me the next day and blamed me for it. This story has so much more detail to it, but I don’t want to re-live that year of trauma in too much detail.
21. Found out through Facebook
Back then Facebook used to display on your profile stuff like “dontsayaword2 liked a photo” and everything you did. I noticed he liked a photo of a girl that seemed to be someone he had recently added. So I checked her profile and she was one of those girls who think “they won” because men cheat on their partners with them.
She had everything public, photos with him, bragging about the texts they exchanged etc. So I engineered a way to befriend her roommate, I would then find out she was bringing other dudes home besides my boyfriend and when I confronted him I also let him know about who else she was sleeping with and for him to get an STD test.
22. Caught red-handed
My (now ex) husband demanded constant access to all of my social media and cell phone messages and was constantly accusing me of cheating even though he had no reason to think I would do that. I had nothing to hide. I never even thought of cheating.
I was watching our young kids 24/7 and didn’t even have transportation since he “accidentally” totalled my car. One day I handed over my phone for him to check for other men and asked to see his. He hesitated but then handed it over. There was a long, sexual, text history.
It was with one of the teenage girls who works for him. He tells me he’s in love with her and wants her to move in with us. I was in total shock, dropped his phone cracking it. He retaliated by breaking my laptop. He’s a wonderful man and I miss him every day… sarcasm.
23. A message that changed everything
Dated a girl for about two years. Like 18 months into the relationship we’re talking about moving in together. Then kinda out of no where she starts becoming distant and irritable. We ended up breaking up. Fast forward 3 months after the break up I found that Facebook has a section where messages from non-friends are kept.
Turns out my then gf was banging her ex and the UPS driver that delivered to her store at the mall. In my messages was a note from the UPS driver’s then-WIFE. [My ex] ended getting with the UPS driver and his 3 kids. Last I checked they’re f*****g miserable and it brings me joy every time I think about it.
24. That’s genius
A friend of mine was suspicious of her husband cheating, as he went to “play soccer with friends” way too often. He always came already showered as he would sweat playing. One day she sewed his soccer socks together, and when he came back all showered she saw the socks were still sewed, so he wasn’t playing soccer at all.
25. Brutal
I didn’t catch her, she told me and told me I wasn’t a real man and that’s why she did it. She just told me everything she hated about me, went on to why I’m worthless pulled over, kicked me out the car and I had to walk back to my place.
As far as my reaction went. I went home, cried, went to bed, stayed in bed for a few days, thought I was a terrible person for a few weeks, cut my holiday leave short and went back to work early to get my mind off things.
26. A poor excuse
I was at work and tried to call my boyfriend, but he wasn’t answering even after a few hours, and I just got a horrible feeling. It stressed me out so badly for some reason that I started to cry and my boss let me go home. The whole way home I just kept feeling serious dread.
Walked in the house and into my bedroom, and he was laying in bed half-clothed with some chick. Obviously a huge blowup went down, and after everything settled, this motherf****r tried to tell me that he went to the movies alone and met her there and she “followed him home”…
It was a s****y abusive relationship, and it didn’t even end then. I eventually broke up with him but not on the spot like I should have. If I could change anything about my life, it would be that I wish I broke up with that guy sooner. That was over ten years ago though!
27. Being the other woman
All these answers are about people who caught their spouses cheating, however I briefly became the “other” woman (unbeknownst to me) and it’s never sat right with me… I met a guy who was fun and great and very “busy” which was exactly what I was looking for as I was grieving and didn’t want anything serious.
4 months of romance later I find out he’s actually married with small children. We were with his colleagues after work at a bar and a coworker asked him where his wife was. I kept my cool, didn’t make a scene but once drinks were over I obviously brought it up and said how terrible that made me feel. I ended up just ghosting him after that.
I wasn’t in the mental state to deal with any of the fallout so I just stopped replying to messages. I should have contacted the wife but I didn’t want to bother playing relationship police. At the time I was under a lot of stress and grief and had my own problems and emotions to deal with.
It’s been 5 years and I always feel so terrible for the wife whenever I think about what happened. Sometimes I feel like contacting her and telling her what happened but I don’t know if it’s the right move or even worth it.
28. Sneaking around
My ex and I used to share a computer. She was getting messages from her first boyfriend. I didn’t bother reading them, because I figured he was just saying hi or wanted to know where she was in life now. A couple of months later, I’m on the computer, and she insisted that she log out while I’m there.
Okay. Things feel weird here. Another couple of days pass, and she wants to visit her parents. Okay cool. I keep the kids and she goes off. I get a call from one of my buddies who works at a hotel where my ex and I are both from saying my wife just checked in with another guy. So long story short, divorced her.
29. Raised suspicions
My ex thought he had deleted the texts. I didn’t usually go through his phone at all, but I had this suspicion that he was seeing someone else based on his behavior, his hiding his phone, and by staying later at work. I was actually really hurt, but mostly angry at myself for being stupid enough to date him.
I had been warned he was no good but I wanted to fix him, and I ended up getting hurt just like all the others. My reaction was initially asking him for an explanation. He tried to cover it, and lied to my face. I immediately told him to get the f*** out of my house and so he did.
He responded to this by saying some very personal things about me on Twitter. It was a really bad time for me, and I hadn’t done anything wrong. But I picked myself up, got the courage to apply to a job at a larger company a few hours away, and ended up moving to a bigger city. It was there that I met my now husband.
30. An abrupt end
My friend and his wife were in Rome a few years ago on vacation, she got a text while in the shower and he found out she was cheating. He grabbed his passport, phone and wallet, took a cab to the airport and flew home without leaving a message or saying a word to her… The last conversation they ever had was her telling him she was going to take a shower.
31. A close shave
Was dating a girl during college. Took her on a vacation to the beach where I had planned on proposing to her as we had been together 4+ years. While she was in the shower checked her phone looking for something. Saw several pictures of her making out with someone from her college.
It had apparently been happening for several months. Led to an awkward drive home for sure. Dropped her off at the airport the day after ending things. She ended up becoming an anti-vax and essential oils believer so dodged a bullet there.
32. A lucky escape
I caught my ex husband cheating as an accident, we had gone to work in the evening and I couldn’t get into my office due to a building screw up, so he let me in his so I could print something. He went for a walk to get his “steps” in. As I was on his computer I realised it was logged in to Facebook. I just had a feeling.
I looked in the messages and he had been chatting with a woman he met in another country via our work. I copied all I could and confronted him when he returned.I made him take me for a drink and told him there would be no reconciliation. He was shell shocked and I told him to go home and pack a bag. That was 6 months ago and I’m really happy to have lost the dead weight.
33. A loyal best friend
I lived in a house with my best friend and my girlfriend, I was working one night at my pub and got a phone call from my best friend to the work telephone as I don’t answer mine whilst I’m working. Apparently he came back from grabbing a few drinks with his work colleagues and found my now-ex in bed with another man.
My friend being completely wasted decided that he didn’t like that and wound up throwing [this] guy down the stairs and beating the hell out of him once he reached the bottom. I immediately came back and rushed from work to find the police at the door with the guy in the back of the cop car wearing his boxer shorts and cuffs being attended to by a medic.
My mate was sat in the front room talking to the other officer, he was let off with a caution as it was an “understandable” reaction even though he was drunk. I am honestly so glad to say that he still lives with me because otherwise I would’ve never found out.
34. Found out on Facebook
He left his Facebook open. I saw his messages, he was telling his ex he was single and invited her to a wedding I was only told about vaguely. The messages got very sexual…Thankfully my friend was with me, she helped me calm down. I basically told him I was disgusted and didn’t want to see him ever again.
He tried apologizing, he tried giving me gifts, he even tried proposing to fix things. It made me hate him 100% more. I ended up calling his ex and informing her that we were in a three year relationship, I told her she could have him but he would most likely cheat on her too if he didn’t already.
She played stupid and said she didn’t know what I was talking about so I’m assuming they’re meant for each other. He tried to control me by holding my stuff hostage lol. I ended up telling him “burn it, wear it, sell it, I don’t f***ing care.” I got to start fresh with a whole new wardrobe and a whole new me. Couldn’t be happier!
35. Trust your gut
I was in my third trimester with our son. I had a weird feeling about how my husband had been acting lately, nothing that stood out, just a feeling. We were getting ready to go on a date. He was getting in the shower and hesitated to put his phone down in front of me.
I instantly knew. In all of our years together I had never looked through his phone or I would have found out much sooner. He had been in a friends with benefits situation for ten years with a married woman that he had known since high school.
36. A happy accident
His phone died and he wanted to check his Facebook, so he logged onto his Facebook on my phone. He forgot to log out (and I assumed he logged himself out). We were supposed to meet the next day (we didn’t live in the same city) but he sent me a text saying he wasn’t feeling well.
So he went home. No problem there, I told him to take it easy and rest. I even offered to visit him and take care of him, but he said no. That night I wanted to check my Facebook. Didn’t realise his account was still logged in. Thought I had a private message.
It was a message from the girl that had been chasing him for the past few months, saying she had fun that afternoon and they should hang out again soon. Everything clicked and I dumped him lol.
37. A traumatising experience
Wasn’t my SO, but my dad in 2012. I guess he didn’t set up iCloud correctly and so all of the messages that were being sent back and forth between my father and his mistress were being sent to me. I was 15 and already having a mental breakdown, and having to show everything to my mom made everything so much worse.
38. Trust your intuition
She’d been acting off my entire visit so when she took a shower I looked at her phone […] I was in absolute shock at what I saw. I texted my sister. And a friend of mine that lived 3 time zones away. I showed them what I saw. They both suggested I leave immediately.
So I started packing. Before I knew it, she was standing there asking me what I was doing. I was in my boxers and a T-shirt with socks on and one shoe. I was in such a daze I had no idea how long I had stood there. I told her we needed to talk. So we did.
I just asked her what the hell was going on with our relationship. And why she was being so aloof. She shrugged it off and said it was me. I was running around in my own head finding things to worry about. Then she promised me everything was ok. I decided to believe her despite what I saw in her phone.
Until I got a text from that friend in the early morning asking if I was ok. I gave her an update. She encouraged me to leave and said I was being lied to. I finished packing while she slept. Loaded everything into my car not looking forward to the 5 hour drive home.
39. The truth always comes out
He wouldn’t let me do anything on his phone without him pulling up whatever I needed for me – if I needed a flashlight, he made sure to pull it up for me first. He also would angle his phone away from me while using it. So one night while he was sleeping, as invasive as it is, I went through his phone.
He had been sending nudes to random people. My heart immediately dropped and I couldn’t breathe. I woke him up and I think I screamed at him? I don’t remember much of anything between waking him up and crying myself to sleep.
40. A double betrayal
We were on the rocks after four years together. Mostly because he was a lazy piece of s*** who couldn’t hold down a job. We finally got sick of each other, broke it off, and he was FINALLY gonna move out. I relied heavily on our (previously) mutual friend, who “took my side” in the break up.
Aka, she took me out for drinks, we were working out together, and basically doing the post-break up girl stuff. He finally had the guts to tell me to stop hanging out with her because they had slept together. Multiple times over a few months, while we were still dating and “working on things”.
Not great to have my trust betrayed by two people. But, I was honestly more upset at her being two-faced, because I had already decided that he was garbage and wouldn’t waste anymore tears on him.
41. Revenge is sweet
My mother’s story, but I was so impressed with her. She had suspected my father was cheating for a while, so she hid a tape recorder in his car. She retrieved the recorder a few days later and had proof that not only was he cheating, he was sleeping with her BEST FRIENDS and talking s*** about her the whole time.
Well her opportunity to listen to the tapes came while my dad was getting LASIK. He hadn’t gotten to sleep soon enough, so he spent a few hours in agony while he recovered. It was while he was writhing around blind and in pain that she came into their room and played the recording of him screwing her best friend. I was in awe of how savage she was when I found out.
42. In the nick of time
Towards the end of amicable divorce (like 10 days before we signed and finalized) I get a call from a woman I haven’t spoken to in 15 years telling me her husband and my wife are sleeping with each other. Shocked couldn’t begin to describe it, my ex and this woman had been friends for 20 years.
I knew the guy (worked with him overseas). She had filed for divorce with the generic “I’m not happy” nonsense. I couldn’t figure out why she was adamant to divorce. That phone call and subsequent emails of these two idiots proclaiming their love for each other gave me clarity.
Guess it was good I found out so late in the process because I would have spent everything I had (I had 99% of $ in the relationship) ensuring she got nothing. We are out West and he lives on the East Coast so not sure how that relationship works out. Worst part is we have two small kids, 8 and 7 when it happened. They ask me every week why we got divorced and every time I have to bite my tongue nearly in half and keep quiet.
43. Heartless
My mother caught my father cheating while she was undergoing chemo. He owns a store and was frequently busy tending to his business. After one of her treatments, she brought some food by the shop to have an impromptu lunch with him, and walked in on him
He was with another woman behind the counter. Apparently, everyone locked eyes, it was clear what was happening, and she left. He then fought her viciously in the divorce, and she died about a year later. I no longer speak to him, because he’s a massive piece of s***.
44. With the boss
My (ex) wife and I always had open phones through our relationship. One night I checked her phone looking for a Hulu login screen shot, found a lot of nudes (she and I never exchanged those so red flag #1). I checked her messages and there were none, like she’d cleared them before she went to sleep (red flag #2).
Hopped on her iPad and found tons of messages with her boss, critiquing me and making fun of me while they were in a relationship. Took photos of the exchanges and then confronted her about it when she woke up. She blamed it on me and other things about our life.
I wasn’t perfect in some ways, but I also know now she threw away the best thing she ever had. After reading the woman I loved criticizing and making fun of me to her new lover, in explicit detail, I still deal with self confidence issues to this day, despite a loving great relationship I have now.
45. Sudden departure
Moved across the country with my gf to start new. New job, new city, a fresh beginning since we hadn’t been getting along for some time. The first full day we are there, I’m getting ready for my first day and my new job. Her phone is vibrating a ton on the bed and she is downstairs.
Look to see if it’s her mom and if everything is okay. It’s a text from someone named “Birdie” who I’ve never heard of. I open it up and look and she’s sexting with some dude she met in a bird watching class. I had to pull my s*** together, go to work (I didn’t have time to deal with this before work started) and then have this sitting on my head all day.
Finally I texted her and told her, I saw your texts, we are through, pack all of your s***, I’m flying you back home tonight. My phone rang constantly for the next 45 mins. Finally I excused myself for an early lunch and went back to the place we were staying to pick her up.
She was a mess but her bags were packed. She pleaded. I drove us to the airport. $750 on a one way ticket back home, which would also be followed up by shipping her car home as well as a bunch of her stuff that was being shipped. She pleaded at the airport. I held my ground.
She got on the plane. She called me 2 hours later from a connecting flight telling me that it got cancelled and she was stuck. I checked the airline and the flight was on time as scheduled. Good riddance. Pretty sure she never told her family the truth so I’m sure they hate me and think I did this on purpose. Either way, I met the girl of my dreams and it all worked out.
46. Shouldn’t have given him the benefit of the doubt
We went to a local Starbucks often enough that the baristas knew us. One day, I was hanging out and one of them came outside and asked if he and I were still together. I said yes and she replied that he had been flirting with one of the new girls pretty hard.
I honestly didn’t think about it much at the time. I trusted him completely and just thought they were mistaking his good nature for flirting. I never even mentioned it to him. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong when I was at the mall with some friends one day and saw him there with the other girl.
He had his hands in her back pockets and all. I was devastated. I texted him saying “She’s really pretty” and left. He went on to run away to Arizona with her. He was my first real relationship and I genuinely loved him, so it hit me really hard. I didn’t date for like 6 years after that.
47. Found out
I was dating this guy in my early 20s. He was my second real relationship so I was still naive. He was still “best friends” with his ex and would talk to her on the phone every night at his night job. I would let him know how uncomfortable it made me.
He would turn it around and say I was being too jealous and needed to learn how to trust. We dated for 4 years, and we had several more incidents of him crossing boundaries and then telling me it was bc I didn’t trust him. Eventually, one night he took a shower and left his phone I out.
I went through it and found that he had been sexting many girls over the years. He had also bought his ex lingerie for Valentine’s Day one year after telling me he didn’t have any money for a stupid, commercialized holiday. I confronted him, he cried and apologized, we stayed together and tried to work it out.
Eventually I realized how much disdain I had for him. I had no love, respect, or any positive feelings for him whatsoever so one day I woke up, drank a beer, packed a bag, and told him I was leaving. The next year was total hell bc of the backlash from him and leaving, BUT it was great bc I was away from him.
48. Stumbled across the truth
My wife went overseas for work and left me her computer, asking if I could fix it for her while she was gone and ship it to her once I fixed it (she’d be overseas for a while). Being in IT, I was happy to. A month later I finally get the time to sit down with it.
I login and pull up Chrome to download some virus scan software I use. Her homepage is Facebook and I bare witness, live, my wife discussing her previous night of bliss with her coworker over Facebook messenger and bashing my ineptitude in her pleasure department.
49. A short-lived affair
I travel for a living and after returning from a job, my (ex) wife and I went to my friends house on a Friday night to play cards and generally let out some steam. Shortly after midnight, she got a text from one of her male co-workers. She quickly cleared it off her phone. After we finished the round of cards, she went out for a cigarette and I saw her typing on her phone. My suspicions rose then.
In the morning, while she slept, I opened her phone and found all the evidence. I still feel some guilt over breaking the trust of going through her phone, albeit for the right reasons. During the divorce, she found she was pregnant with his kid. She and him were “in love”. Before the divorce finalized they broke up. If I didn’t catch her, I might still be raising his kid.
50. A revelation
I had a gut feeling for years that she was cheating but I could never prove it. One day she broke her iPhone, and I knew that I had an opportunity to find out. I felt dirty doing it, but I placed keylogging software on my computer at the house and within a few hours I had all of her passwords.
I started looking at her social media and email accounts and found she had five other men she was seeing from her work. She had also opened three separate bank accounts and was siphoning money from our joint accounts. I also found out that my daughter was not mine.
It was horrible. I almost killed myself that night, but while I was sitting there with the gun I realized that she would probably be happy about that. I divorced her, she didn’t get s*** from my assets, and now four years later life is much better.
51. A dramatic exit
My coworker was in a marriage that she generally just wasn’t happy in…and then she found out he was having an affair. She didn’t want it to be messy and said she wanted a divorce. He asked why and she said she just wasn’t happy anymore. He said he would do anything to fix it so suggested couples counseling.
She said no use as she just wanted out. He begged her until she agreed to go. She gathered her proof and went to the first counselling sessions with her husband. The counselor asked why she wanted a divorce, so she pulled out her envelope of proof and said “well, he’s having an affair and I’m done with him”.
The counselor and husband were stunned. One question in and they were done. My coworker got up and walked out. The counselor later said that was the quickest that’s ever happened. I couldn’t have waited that long, but man I’m glad she did…such a good story. She’s now been married to another guy for over 20 years.
52. A scarring experience
I met this girl in college and we ended up dating for six years. This was my first real relationship so I was kind of naïve to the whole dating world. We would be inseparable while in college but during the summer she would return home which was California, I lived in the Midwest.
I noticed that while she was home, she would suddenly be always busy. We would try to FaceTime every day but some days she would just text that she was with friends. I trusted her and didn’t think anything of it. She graduated before me and went home while I stayed to finish college.
We did long distance and it seemed to work. However, when it came to looking into moving into together she was always super nervous and never wanted to talk about it. Eventually, I told her that I wanted to know what she wanted to do so I can plan my life out.
She then admitted that she wasn’t interested in me anymore and had been cheating on me during our whole relationship. Yeah it broke me and I had a rough two years after the fact.
53. It’s all happening at the zoo
I had suspected for a while and even asked her about it, which she obviously denied. Well, she told me that her family was going on vacation for a couple weeks over the summer (we went to college together), and that she would call me when she got back.
Well, about halfway through a friend of hers called me to let me know that my girlfriend at the time was in fact not on vacation and my instincts were correct. The friend had known for a little while but wasn’t sure about the correct course of action.
She told me that my now ex and her loverboy were going to be at the zoo the next day. Instead of confronting them there, I caught them on video holding hands and making out, then I went home and drank. When she “got back” we made plans to go to dinner.
Went through most of dinner like nothing was up, then after I finished my meal, I said something along the lines of “hey I have something I think you’ll like! I’ll send it to you.” And sent her the video of her and loverboy making out at the zoo. Then I just got up and left without saying a word, sticking her with the bill, blocked her from my phone, and deleted my Facebook.
54. Some overlap
Basically my ex got into a relationship immediately (Facebook official within a week) of us breaking up, with someone who we both worked with previously. In fact, I later learned that he was one of the people who went on a work trip that she went on a little before we broke up, and possibly that was when it started.
Anyway, when we met up to exchange stuff, she accused me of cheating pretty immediately, with someone I actually hadn’t seen in about a year but she was a female friend from school and my ex was a very jealous person. I of course was fairly convinced at that point that she had cheated.
So I asked her, and she denied it. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and anyway it’s not like it really matters. Well, just less than one year after we broke up, she posts on Facebook a picture of the gift he got her for her anniversary.
55. Happened twice
The first time was early in our relationship. He was drunk one night and had sex with a girl that we were both friends with. I wasn’t in the country, and I hadn’t seen him for almost a month. She stopped chatting with me after it happened, and so I asked why.
She told me something happened between her and my then-boyfriend, but that I should talk to him. I of course had faith in my boyfriend. And when I came to see him, I didn’t want to ask directly because I didn’t think it could be anything as serious. After a few days he confessed. And I forgave him…
The second time was quite long after this. He met a girl at his college and sort of went along with her flirting and stuff. I again wasn’t able to see him in person, but we texted daily and skyped a lot. Apparently he was cheating on me for over two weeks before the girl told him to confess to me. And so we broke up.
56. That escalated quickly
Many years ago. Got in a minor argument with gf. She insisted on going to stay at her father’s but I wanted her to stay so we could work through it. She left and I couldn’t sleep so very early in the morning I decided to go there and just take all blame and apologize.
Walked into the spare room to wake her up and she’s laying there with some dude. I went back upstairs and sat at the table for a few minutes and saw a hammer sitting on the table at arm’s reach…I picked it up and went back to the bedroom and stood there for a few seconds in shock.
And then I slammed the hammer as hard as I could against the headboard. You can imagine their wake up reaction. I looked at her and said we’re done, looked at him and said that could’ve been you. And I went home to bed.
57. Checked the phone bill
One day while my ex-husband was showering, his phone rang and it was a coworker (I thought was strange that she was calling him on his cell at 9 PM.) So I didn’t say anything. He looked at his phone and also didn’t say anything. Then when he was sleeping I went back to look at his phone.
The missed call had been deleted. That’s when I knew something was up. I memorized her phone number and looked up our phone bill. Right there was a record of how they talked and messaged all day long. Sometimes I’d be on the phone with him, she would call in, he would hang up with me and be on the phone with her.
He didn’t see the confrontation coming. He’d pull mind tricks on me and I calmly told him what I knew as he was trying to pull one over on me. He froze. I mean like FROZE. Did not move a muscle. And then sat down on the couch with his head in his hands.
58. Forgot his phone
Caught my ex cheating with our neighbor about 5 years ago. He had been hiding his phone screen when I would walk by. She even had the balls to knock on our door once and ask if she could borrow him for some construction work she couldn’t finish… he was gone for like an hour.
Then he forgot his phone at home one day so I checked it out. Had been sending her “good morning beautiful” and “good night” texts every day for months. When I’d go to work he would text and say I was gone and they needed a “Jeep date” which was code for “let’s go f*** in your Jeep.”
I went outside and waited for her to get home where I was ready to drown her in a f***ing puddle, unfortunately for me she had her twin boys with her […] I just told her she’s lucky her kids are stopping me from curb stomping mommy… He sped home when he realised his phone was with me, ran up to the front door where I was waiting, and I used his forward momentum to help me break his nose.
59. Denied it all
Was dating a girl in high school for over two years. Woke up one morning and checked my phone to find a long message from a girl I didn’t know telling me her boyfriend and my girlfriend had sex recently. He broke down and told his girlfriend everything. I woke my girlfriend up and questioned her.
She denied it over and over. I didn’t believe her, but wanted to so badly that eventually I started to actually believe she was telling the truth. Can’t remember the exact timing, but about 3-6 months later she wanted out of the relationship. After questioning her multiple times I found out she had been talking to someone else. Okay lady. Let me help you pack your bags.
60. That’s low
I had had major surgery and experienced a slew of complications that ultimately led to me being on bed rest for two months. I stayed in the guest bedroom on a pretty continuous medication buzz. During that time she put herself on Tinder, invited men and women to our house, and slept with several.
Again, I had major surgery and was in pretty rough shape, I was pretty unaware of the happenings in my own home during this time. When she told me what she had done I packed everything up and left. Packing up and moving was hard, but leaving was easy.
61. Parents let it slip
We had moved in together, and as it was her first time living away from her family she soon started to get a bit homesick, and decided about once or twice a week she’d stay around her parents house. All was going well, and about 6 months into this we were both around her parents house for whatever reason.
And then they casually mentioned something which heavily suggested they hadn’t seen her for something like a month or two. As far as I was aware she had stayed the night there mere days ago. Yeah, at no point did she ever stay at her parents house.
62. A double life
We had each other’s Facebook passwords cause we’d use each other’s phones etc. We were meeting friends and neither of us could remember the time so I went on her messenger as she was the one who’d arranged it. A few seconds after logging in her ex sent her a message which I thought was odd.
Then the ex sent another message saying basically ‘we still on for tomorrow?’ I went into the chat and discovered that she’d been sleeping with him for about 8 months. We were about 3 months away from our wedding and she’d just moved in. It was brutal.
The ex later reached out to me to apologise for everything, knew it was wrong etc. And the kicker? He revealed he’d gotten her pregnant and she’d gotten an abortion all without me knowing. Safe to say I haven’t been on a date since.
63. Not exactly a funeral
My ex cheated on me back in October with someone she met in World of Warcraft. Didn’t find out about it until end of May when a mutual acquaintance told me about it. She didn’t deny it. Sucky thing about it is she used the story of having to fly down for a funeral to see this guy.
My reaction was, well, one of indifference. You can be cheated on only so many times before you start believing you’re the problem. That or I just date the same kind of women and never learn my lesson. Either way, I guess I’m sort of numb to it and just staying single for now.
64. Joining up the dots
I noticed on Instagram she still had a close friendship with my best friend and my mind started connecting dots. I learned she had been sleeping with my best friend. Then when I was talking to her friend about it, I learned she also slept with her boss as well. Ultimately I felt relieved that it wasn’t my fault that we broke up after 2 years.
65. A dramatic turn of events
We got into an argument over the phone. I felt bad about it, so drove to her apartment 2 hours away to apologize. Got there around midnight. There was a strange car in her spot and all the lights were off. I knocked, and immediately she deadbolted the door, then called the cops.
Cops came, were nasty to me at first, but really apologetic when they figured out what was going on. They told me I had to leave. She got a restraining order against me a couple weeks later. Six years together. Moved across the country alone together. Loved her completely. The restraining order was to keep me from finding out she was already pregnant with the other guy’s kid.
They eloped a couple weeks after I caught them. The only closure I got was a message from her saying it was all my fault. Put me in a very dark place for many many years. Took a solid decade for the nightmares to go away. I still get them, but I’m a lot tougher now and can put them aside. Mental and emotional maturity sometimes come with a very hefty price.
66. Holding it together
My wife developed a kidney stone. We went to the ER. I grabbed her phone to text her co-workers that she wasn’t coming to work. On her phone was a text from a guy saying “am I out of your system yet?”. I had that terrible stomach feeling immediately when you know something is bad. Sure enough it was as she eventually admitted to an affair.
It was rough stretch as it took her days to pass the stone so I needed to help her deal with the physical pain that she was in and manage our young kids. Then she attempted suicide a couple times when I tried to leave. I didn’t tell many people about the affair which I think was a good thing as it saved her from embarrassment and the kids from unnecessary added drama.
67. Smashed the phone
My ex wife would stay up annoyingly late texting in bed. One night, I simply leaned over and saw her punch in her PIN. I waited another 2 weeks for it to annoy me again, so after she fell asleep, I took her phone into the bathroom and saw at least 6 of the past months in our less-than-2 years marriage she had been in a relationship with someone she hired under the table for her photography business.
I didn’t handle it well. I smashed the phone through its protective case and intended to leave the apartment, but woke her up and she kept asking what was wrong, and like out of a movie, she asked where her phone was. I lied, told her I didn’t know, and it made an audible noise in my pocket. She lunged at me, scratching me up and I left the apartment.
68. A holiday gone wrong
Was on the way to the cottage with my friend and ex, when the guy she had been cheating with me started blowing up my phone (I guess he was sick of her blowing him off). Sent me screen shots from the last two years of her consistently cheating off me. Kicker was he was my friend too.
But found out, turned the car around and drove her three hours home and told her she had one hour to get everything out of my house. Blocked her on everything and haven’t looked back. I felt like an idiot for not knowing and for wasting 6 1/2 years of my life on her.
For the first month or two I couldn’t really sleep and was pretty depressed. But it’s been almost three months now and things are getting better! She made it easy not to miss her but I really miss our dog! It’s always better to break up with a cheater than to continue being with them and not knowing!
69. Devastating
Boyfriend of 2 years slept with my older brother’s ex. I found out by her sending screenshots to one of my best friends. It was so infuriating because he denied it and kept sugar coating everything until I showed him the screenshots. On top of that he was also messaging and paying other girls for pictures. Broke up with him on the spot.
70. A surprise visit
We were together 3ish years. I had gone snowboarding for the weekend with some friends. I had a rough accident while snowboarding and I ended up with a back injury that prevented me from being able to walk for little over a week. As soon I was well enough to walk and drive I decided to surprise my gf at the time by going to visit her unannounced.
I had the keys to her apartment so I just walked in on my best friend at the time and my ex. It was awkward to say the least. I no longer talk to either of them. They have been together since though for 7-8 years now? (I learned that through mutual friends) it was a relationship I wasn’t 100% happy in so I’m glad it ended, but the way it ended coulda been cleaner.
71. Like something out of Love Actually
I found Valentine’s gifts and an unwritten Valentine’s card in his car. When I didn’t receive them (or anything else) for Valentine’s Day I asked him. He denied it of course until I mentioned it to his brother and it all unravelled that I was actually the side piece – for 2 years.
He had a long term girlfriend and child living in a different area that I had no idea about. All of his family knew about it but didn’t say anything. Then he stalked me after I broke up with him until I was forced to get a restraining order. Lucky escape!
72. A lightbulb moment
I came home from work early and found a friend at our flat. Nothing weird about that. Unlocked the door and walked in, “hi honey!”, walked into the kitchen to make a sandwich or something. Out of the bedroom she comes with a bathrobe on, acting weird.
I walk into the living room and she says “oh, by the way, so-and-so came by!” and he walks in. I haven’t seen him in ages so I’m quite taken aback but it’s good to see him, and we chat. A few minutes later, and honestly I don’t remember how long it took, it dawns on me like a lightning bolt.
Where was he when I walked into the flat? It’s a small flat, he wasn’t in the kitchen or the living room, and I could see the bathroom door from the kitchen – so he was in the bedroom, and she was in a bathrobe. I recall a sense of sick certainty. What other explanation could there be?
He went to the shops to pick up some beers or something, and I asked her straight up. She didn’t deny it, which at least I respect her a little bit for. I threw her out of the flat right away. This was nine years ago and I’ve never really gotten over it. Perhaps I never will.
73. Ratted herself out
My ex was always a shady type. One night she went out with her friend, whose name happens to start with the same letter as mine. Around 1am she texted me to say “Hey, I’ll be home in about half an hour”. No worries, I was already in bed. As I started replying to the text, my phone buzzed again.
“Hey [name of friend she was supposed to be out with], if anyone asks, we were hanging out tonight ok? I’ll call you tomorrow and explain, but long story short, I was with Alex and it was AMAZING!” I replied to that one and said “I think you may have texted the wrong person.” Our names were next to each other in her phone. Completely inept cheating.
74. Suspicious behaviour
Took her to see her favorite band in concert. The WHOLE time she was on her phone texting someone. Said her sister was sending her pics her newborn baby. I glanced over and there were zero pictures. Just long texts. I said something about it and she lost her mind in the middle of the crowd… The next day she apologized and said there was another guy.
75. Still logged in
My boyfriend of 4 years left his computer (in the corner of our bedroom) on with a Facebook messenger chat open full screen with nudes that they’d sent each other. Along with s****y messages of her telling him to imagine her when he’s with me and s*** like that.
I got home early and he didn’t think to check it was closed before I walked into the room. I made him aware of what I’d found but very calmly. Then left to go meet friends. Made arrangements to move out a few weeks later without telling him. I’d already given him more chances than he deserved.
76. A happy ending
After three years, one weekend he had a hickey that I didn’t give him. I left when I saw it. Two weeks later he showed up at my apartment begging me to take him back. I demanded his phone, then called the girl. Found out she knew nothing about me and that they’d been sleeping together as well as he officially asked her to be his girlfriend.
She’d apparently met his family and all his friends and no one had told either of us what was going on. These were people I’d known since I was seventeen and considered my second family. I was in a bad place mentally and ended up taking him back and staying with him for an additional four years.
It was four years filled with regrets and a lot of mental abuse. I ended up meeting a guy at a bar one night and it was like my mind finally got set free. We talked all night, kissed and I went home alone. I called my ex and broke up with him the next day.
I’d never felt so bad about something before and it made me think how he’d been able to carry on an entire second relationship for almost a year and hadn’t cared. I’m going to marry the man I met in the bar in 2022.
77. Got her revenge
I was engaged (young and dumb) and he had logged into his Facebook message onto my phone and one night a notification came through and I saw everything. I didn’t tell him I knew this but this is how I reacted: I was in esthetic school at the time where I was practicing waxing.
Well I asked him to be a model for me to do a waxing test one day but for a Brazilian wax. I did it in the most painful way I could and when I was finished my female instructor came in to inspect the work I did. She said I did a great job (considering he had no hair left anywhere).
I also knew he was embarrassed as well considering the room was very cold and he was exposed and he was still recovering from the inflicted pain. When she left the room I told him I knew he was cheating and that he had two weeks to get out of my place and the wedding was off. After he left, I explained to my instructor my situation since I was crying at this point and she reassured me it was all going to be ok.
78. An abrupt ending
He moved away for college and I was in my senior year of high school (we were both bisexual males). He ended up becoming friends with another girl and she was incredibly proud to tell me that they had been dating since a week after he moved. I found out three months after he moved.
Needless to say, he lost every friend he had back home because I told our group of friends that he was also close with and the story spread like wildfire. Haven’t spoken to him since and couldn’t care less how he was doing since he was stressing himself out with this new girlfriend and her mental and physical health issues.
79. A prank gone wrong
I once had a bladder infection and my doctor recommended me getting and STD test as well because bladder infections in men can be an indicator of STDs. So I got it done and told my GF about it, she didn’t seem too surprised or even interested. When the results came back negative (to be sure; meaning NO STD) I decided to play a prank on my GF at the time.
During dinner I told her “Listen honey, we have something to talk about. The STD test, it came back positive. Now for the past 1.5 years you are the only one I’ve had sex with. So… I don’t really know how I got it..” She looked at me, put her fork down, hands before her face and ran into to bedroom. Well, that’s not what I expected.
After contemplating for a minute I decided that I had to hope for her thinking I was blaming her for cheating on me, while she didn’t. That must mean that I am the one who cheated, which is why she is now upset, right? Yeah, that must be it. I knocked on the door and entered slowly.
She was crying on the bed and stuttered an apology. “It… Was… Not.. Suhuhuhuhu-posed.. to ha-heheheppen!” Naive hopes shattered. I actually caught my GF (now ex, obviously) cheating on me by joking about an STD test I had to take because of a bladder infection. Great.
80. A sudden change of heart
Married 40 years. Went to care for my mother (broken hip) for 2 months. Came home on a Wednesday, everything normal until Friday morning when he asks if he should wear a blue shirt or a green shirt. I asked for what occasion and he replied that he had started dating other women while I was gone.
He told me that I could accept it or get a divorce. Spent the next three years having a nervous breakdown. Our house was his inheritance so I got nothing. He receives social security and one person can’t live on it, half is nothing. Am a bitter angry person, I don’t even want to be around me! Completely broken.
81. An intimate moment
I showed up at a friend’s party somewhat uninvited. Walked towards the backside of the house (I had a feeling something had been off for a while) and got to peek through one of the windows. She was with her “friend”, no pants on, sitting on his lap, he was naked waist down too.
They were actually talking at the moment, no movement, no kissing, not even hugging. She was sitting on his lap talking and he was just paying attention. Sure, it was clear as day that sex was normal between then, but I felt so odd watching that interaction. It felt way more intimate than just f***ing.
82. A very calm reaction
Her alarm was going off on a day she had off, so I went to turn off her phone and saw the text messages. I went out to the living room, gathered my thoughts, and went into the room, woke her up, and asked her to leave. I didn’t beg for her back, I didn’t yell, I didn’t cry, just maintained my composure.
She asked why, and I told her I was breaking up with her, and handed her the phone. She cried, I handed her the car keys, and she left. Came back a little while later, I had her things boxed up, then after it was all out I had my breakdown, cried a bit, broke some stuff, but then started to rebuild my life without her in it.
83. That backfired
I was out of town and my gf sent me a snap of her in her underwear saying “I’m home alone, come over” and then sent me another snap with the caption “whoops wrong person” then another saying “omg baby that was a joke.” I sent a mate over there to see if anything was happening and long story short I dumped her a** and slept with her best friend.
84. That doesn’t add up
So I was dating my childhood best friend. We were friends for 15 years and dating for 3. I actually broke up with him (not knowing he was cheating) because I WANTED to cheat on him, but I’m not like that. So fast forward a year later and I’m happily in another relationship (still am and I’m probably going to marry this one).
His “new” girlfriend posted a happy anniversary to us on Facebook dated for September…. We didn’t break up till November of that year. So I’m laughing it off with my roommate. We get drunk and are happily talking about whatever. She asks me to drunk text my ex to see if he would admit to the cheating. He says “I would never cheat! I never cheated on you!” He couldn’t even admit it a year later lol.
85. Long distance didn’t work out
I moved to another country to study and we decided to try long distance. Back then, you couldn’t see messages from strangers on FB because they would get filtered into some other category or something when you were on your phone. I didn’t have a computer, and after a month or so after moving I logged on to Facebook using one of the computers in my apartment building.
There were a bunch of unopened messages from a random girl I didn’t know. She told me she had met my (then) bf on a hookup-app and they had been talking, sexting and finally met up to have sex. She sent me all of their conversations including nudes of my ex. As I this wasn’t bad enough, I then noticed the date of when she had sent the messages and looked at their conversations.
Turns out, he had started talking to her a few weeks before I left the country and then finally met up with her ON THE SAME DAY I left. So he was probably already off having sex with this girl when I wasn’t even off the plane yet. The girl was very apologetic and told me she had no idea he had a girlfriend and only found out when she had looked him up on Facebook. I’m very glad she reached out to me because who knows how long I would’ve wasted my time on him if she hadn’t.
86. Had a hunch
I was next to her, sleeping. I woke up in the middle of night because her phone light disturbed me, I asked “is everything alright? Can’t you sleep?” She hid her mobile phone, said “everything’s alright, let’s sleep” and closed her eyes and cuddled me. In this moment I just felt something was odd.
So for the first and last time in my life I waited for her to sleep to check her phone. First thing that popped up was a message with a d*** pic , when I scrolled up there were texts like “damn I miss ur d***”… I woke her up, threw her phone out of the window (she lived in the 4th floor at that time), told her what I’ve seen and if she wants to tell me anything else.
She then cried, said she cheated on me with four dudes in two years, some of them more than once. Funny thing is, she was always jealous of friends of mine, told me to delete every girl’s number and even was jealous on the old ladies I had to take care of as a nurse. Then I said: “Well that’s it then, I’m gone” and I left. It was about 3 am and I had to wait some hours for the next train home.
87. A poor excuse
My wife and I were married about 8 years. It’s 2007 and MySpace is still a thing. My wife starts acting weird. She starts doing the flipping windows as soon as I enter the room, stumbles to answer questions about what she’s doing, mixes up stories, and several other red flags.
She says everything is fine, but she’s a horrible liar and it is obvious something is up. I did something I’m not particularly proud about, but I wrote a network proxy for our computer that captured all the traffic and allowed me to replay back what she was doing… Found out she was talking to an old boyfriend that she dated right before we got together.
She would drop our kids off at her parents house while I was at work and meet up with him. She denied it even when I had proof. The most she ever offered as explanation was that she felt our relationship was bad so she was talking to him so she could figure out what she does wrong in relationships. I told her that secretly meeting up with her ex wasn’t the answer.
88. The ends justify the means
One night, in the corner of my eye, I saw what I thought was a nude on my ex gf’s phone. She had her phone to the side. I asked, “what was that?” She denied anything was there. I didn’t push it. At the time, we had windows phones. I had set up her account. I felt like I was doing something wrong, but I logged into her account.
I saw all her photos. There were nudes that she hasn’t sent me and photos of her and one of our mutual friends. It’s kinda against my values to invade someone’s privacy like that, but I had enough reason and she had been getting pretty cold with me at that time.
89. Admitted it
My ex always said that I was cheating. There was no indication that I did, nor did I ever cheat. She was always so toxic to me, making me feel like c***. One day while we’re on a break from each other, I give her a ride from our high school to drop her off at her place.
Within 2 mins of her getting in the car, she tells me that she had sex with her best friend. “How do you feel?”, she asks in a petty way. My reaction: well, I always stay calm while driving so I bottled up my feelings. Until when I dropped her off, at which point also I dumped her and drove off.
90. Caught out
My ex wife said she was going to stay with her parents for the night because they needed help or something. Not common, but not totally unusual. I said fine and went over to a buddy’s house who had just gone through a breakup. We decided we’d set him up with a match profile so he could get back to it.
When we went to match.com my wife was one of the featured profiles… no joke…So I printed the thing off and drove all the way up to her mom’s house (about an hour) to ask her about it, and her mom said she wasn’t there. So I called her up and she first says she was at her mom’s house.
But then I said she wasn’t because I was at her mom’s house, and after telling her about the profile, she owned up and said she was at some dudes house and we’d deal with it in the morning. The only thing we dealt with in the morning is starting the divorce paperwork…
91. Cottoned on
I was a dumb kid and madly in love, so whenever she said she was having a childhood friend come hang out over and over, I wisened up and eventually caught on. I confronted her, [and] she then confessed. It’s all good though I saw her at Walmart a few years later and she looked like complete s***, strolled into the store in pajama pants and a shirt covered in stains.
92. A lot of red flags
There were more and more little red flags popping up. It was my first relationship and I unfortunately did get engaged to her and thought we were all good. Instead of talking about problems she felt we had to me, she made a friend at work that she got close to.
I started picking up on it when she’d start angling her phone away from me or quickly putting it away whenever I’d enter the room.
Then there were the times where she wanted to get more dressed up for work and just happened to be going out with this guy friend after work as well.
Nothing outwardly to show proof but it was eating at me so one night when she was fast asleep I checked her phone and saw all the messages going back a couple of months of them sexting, planning dates, talking about feeling guilty cheating on both of their partners (as his partner was also pregnant) but still wanting to be together.
Broke my heart and trust, both of which aren’t the same 6 years later. But I thought I loved her and it was approaching finals of her last semester in college so I kept it to myself to not add anymore stress. Finally confronted her about it and instead of breaking things off entirely, tried slowly stepping back and therapy, which backfired when both therapists we saw blamed me for her cheating since I played too many of video games.
93. Walked out
When I was 18 I dated a guy in the army. At this point we had been together about a year. I was editing some footage I had taken of him longboarding and doing tricks, he wanted a cool video to share with his friends and family back home. Since my computer was cr***y I was using his to edit the footage. He had forgotten to log out of FB and the notification tab for it was going nuts & the name was of some woman he had never mentioned.
We had open phone policy with one another so I didn’t think it to be a big deal to open it, but it turns out he had been messaging with this woman from Tennessee (where he had been previously stationed with his ex-wife). He had been promising to fly her out to the state he was stationed in, and that everything would be perfect when they were together.
I got up, put the computer down and walked out of the barracks to my car. He came chasing after me when he realized I walked out and not to the bathroom, asked what was wrong… I turned around, looked him in the eye, and quoted one of the messages he sent to her. His face went pale and he began apologizing, telling me she meant nothing. I told him I didn’t care and left.
94. Not where she said she was
Happened my junior year of college. We’d been dating since high school and decided to go long distance since we decided to go to different colleges. About 2 hours away from each other so we thought it could be doable. There are some details I don’t quite remember that made me suspicious leading up to the event.
One weekend she was going to our hometown to visit family and she sent me some cute pictures from her trip. Clearly she didn’t know, but the picture metadata included location data and she was not where she said she was but instead at a separate college.
She was visiting an old flame of hers from before we started dating initially. Long story short, I forgave her and we dated another year until a separate somewhat similar event happened and I grew a pair and forced myself out of the relationship. And now I am in a legitimately happy and healthy relationship.
95. The other woman
My boyfriend of 5 years was very weird on the phone one morning. He stayed with his parents the night before bc he “had to help them” with something, but I didn’t hear from him most the night. A random number kept calling through the work day. I finally answered at lunch time. It was a woman claiming she found my number in her boyfriend’s phone and read our messages.
They had been together 6 months and she was pregnant. I asked her to meet up with me so we could talk. When she showed up, I gave her all of his belongings in a black trash bag, showed her all the evidence she needed that he was both our boyfriend, and changed my locks and number. He reached out recently on IG to do lunch lol.
96. Sneaking suspicion
I had been living with my BF for a while. The more time passed, the more I suspected him of cheating. One day, he walks out of the room, I see a message preview pop up on his phone. Another girl talking about her appreciation for their emotional connection.
I didn’t have the passcode to his phone. Took a few days to get the opportunity bc he rarely left it unattended. One night in bed, he falls asleep watching a movie on his phone. I knew that I had to be SUPER stealthy due to him being a light sleeper.
I cautiously close the movie and go thru his apps. Totaled 8 other women in inappropriate conversations. All included deleted message histories. If I were to be in the same situation again, I would have gotten more revenge. But it was sufficient to call him out and dump him immediately.
97. Lied to for so long
Walking to the bathroom, through our bedroom one night before bed. She was smiling in a way that I hadn’t seen in a long time. When our eyes met she physically jumped and almost dropped her phone. I could see the text messages. When I came out of the bathroom, I asked her what that was about.
She denied everything at first. She had deleted all of her messages. She eventually told me that she had been talking to another man. Tried to work it out, but she never stopped. I caught her again. I saw his number show up on her phone months later. She had been deleting the messages and calls.
Tried to work it out, but she never stopped. Six months or so of depression and paranoia, and I find out the conversation had just been moved to Facebook. She deleted her entire account for a while. Tried to work it out, but the damage had been done. It’s been a year of depression, seeing sketchy behaviour, and paranoia.
I’m done. I want out. If she had been honest with me, or if I had left the first time, I would already be well on my way to my new life. No one deserves to be lied to about this kind of thing. I’ve never told anyone about this, to protect her reputation. I don’t know why I did that.
98. These things happen
He started a relationship with a girl from our town while he and I were still together. We were long term, too, together over 2.5 years. The girl he cheated with became my best friend and we are still friends to this day and we both said F U to the bf.
Pretty funny. I was like, well, things happen. I continued to be friends with my ex for years after, through his other gf and many jail and prison stints. Then I started dating my husband and stopped talking to him cause I learned how a real man should treat me.
99. A nasty surprise
My ex was a studio engineer (which means he recorded music with big acts in a studio), which meant he often worked overnight. He had a brutal two weeks working overnight and super long hours. I felt bad for him so I baked him and the team some breakfast muffins and brought them to the studio. His boss thanked me but said the ex wasn’t there. He had been off for two weeks.
I left a note on the ex’s desk that said “If you aren’t at work where the f*** are you?” and went home. The next day he came home and told me that he had met a girl who came with the band that he had been working with two weeks prior […] They moved in together.
100. Couldn’t shake the feeling
Three years ago. I was up ridiculously early to get ready for the gym. Our relationship was feeling off and I just had this weird voice telling me to look in his phone. I’ve never looked through his phone, never felt the need to ever look through any boyfriend’s phone.
But for some reason that voice was urging me on so I snuck his phone while he was still asleep. Low and behold that prior weekend (this was a Monday morning) he cheated on me when he was high with one of his “friends”. I was away that weekend and he lied to me the entire time.
I’m a very chill, non anxious, non angry person. However… I have never felt that anger in my life and I lost all control. I woke up him, screamed, yelled, hit. I absolutely lost it. I said some really mean things. I kicked him out. I proceeded to wreck all of his things and throw them out.
