Ahh the 90s. They were the best of years, they were the worst of years. But we’ll always remember growing up during a time when you had to wait until your dad was finished on the phone to dial up the Internet, and the only thing worth doing on your mobile was either ringing someone(!) or playing Snake.

[adinserter block=”10″]

Of course, lots of things have changed since that simple age nearly thirty years ago, and not always for the better. Why can’t we return to a time when smelly stationery was fashionable and the only thing that mattered in the world was which type of Wordart you used for your homework that week?!

[adinserter block=”11″]

With the list below, we bring you 25 hilarious memes that only true 90s kids will understand. These photos will send you right back to your childhood and have you complaining about the youth of today in no time at all!

Scroll on down for a serious nostalgia trip…

  1. When you didn’t have the Internet to occupy all of your time…

[adinserter block=”10″]

[adinserter block=”11″]

Which one will I play today? Solitaire or Minesweeper? This was about as fun as computers got for kids who grew up in the 1990s, a decade of time when the Internet still barely existed in its current form. If you were feeling creative, MS Paint was always a good option for drawing random squiggles in different colours and then rubbing them out again.

2. We grew up in a world without iPhones

[adinserter block=”12″]

It’s your birthday and you decide to splash out on a disposable camera to take a maximum of thirty photographs for your latest photo album.

The only thing is, you have to wait at least a week to get them developed, only to realise that half of the photos are blurred and your thumb was over the lens for at least a few. High tech photography at its very best.

[adinserter block=”10″]

3. Life was a lot harder back in the 90s

[adinserter block=”11″]

Remember stretching your jeans pocket to try and fit your CD walkman inside it? Yes, we still never managed to get it in all the way either. And forget about electric car windows, you had to put in some serious blood, sweat and tears if you wanted to breathe comfortably on a hot day.

4. Who else used to be obsessed with burning CDs?

[adinserter block=”12″]

Just make sure you use the right pen and don’t smudge the track list!

5. Schools didn’t always have the latest technology at their disposal

[adinserter block=”10″]

Yey we’re having a film day! Your teacher just needs two volunteers to cart the TV, video player and heavy stand down three corridors before you can get started.

6. Remember when people used to write stuff down with a pen and paper?

[adinserter block=”11″]

Who needs to listen to the teacher when you can write a message the same length as War and Peace to your best mate two desks away? Notes were probably the 90s equivalent of texting under the table, and when we think about it, the teacher always knew what we were up to really.

7. School projects. Every single time.

[adinserter block=”12″]

You always thought you were being really arty and original as soon as it came to choosing the Wordart for whichever school project you were working on that particular week.

Never mind the fact that every single other pupil in your class was also using one of the Microsoft presets.

[adinserter block=”10″]

8. Before iPods, we had cassette tapes

[adinserter block=”11″]

The worst part was when the tape came loose and you had to carefully try and wind it back in with a pencil.

9. 90s playgrounds definitely kept us on our toes

[adinserter block=”12″]

Depending on the weather, you could walk away with first degree burns or a large current of electricity surging through your body. All in the name of fun!

10. We used to love these in primary school

[adinserter block=”10″]

We’re not sure what you’d even call these weird stackable pencils anymore, but it was way cooler to push up a brand new pencil head rather than have to use a boring old sharpener like some kind of loser.

11. These were definitely as accurate as an Apple watch…

[adinserter block=”11″]

Why did people make this rubbish? And why did we buy it time after time?

12. Friday night = video shop

[adinserter block=”12″]

The video shop is one of the last vestiges of the 1990s. Blockbuster closed down years ago, but in some small villages independent video shops still exist, trying to compete with Netflix and other streaming websites.

We’ll always remember the excitement of getting to choose the video, which in our case was Parent Trap. Every. Single. Week.

[adinserter block=”10″]

13. Tamagotchis were everywhere in the 90s

[adinserter block=”11″]

This was the height of gaming fun in the 90s – a tiny little digital pet to look after until the batteries ran out.

14. Snake was the best game ever

[adinserter block=”12″]

Let’s face it – as soon as mobile phones started to include games, we were hooked.

But instead of being hunched over a screen staring at social media, we were desperately trying to beat our friend’s Snake high score.

[adinserter block=”10″]

15. This was such an important choice…

[adinserter block=”11″]

We always felt that your choice of Solitare deck reflected your personality.

16. One of the drawbacks of trying to record live radio…

[adinserter block=”12″]

You’re just enjoying the last few bars of one of your favourite songs and then the idiot DJ you were trying to avoid listening to cuts over the last 10 seconds with a pointless shout out.

Sound familiar?

[adinserter block=”10″]

17. Remember sitting hunched around a keyboard with your mates?

[adinserter block=”11″]

You could play so many games from the comfort of your keyboard back in the 1990s. And if your friend wanted to join in, all they had to do was roll up another swivel chair! Sorted.

18. Skills for life, surely?

[adinserter block=”12″]

Playing shop was always exciting, especially when you got some random canned goods to go with your fruit and veg.

19. We still remember the pain…

[adinserter block=”10″]

How many times did one of your parents try and avoid swearing when they stepped on one of these?! For tiny hair clips, they did manage to do a hell of a lot of damage to the bottom of our feet. Still, they looked great on and the pastel shades went nicely with our jelly shoes.

20. Before cracked iPhone screens, this was the thing to avoid

[adinserter block=”11″]

You want to kick back and relax with your CD collection, but you go to put on Blur‘s latest album when you notice it’s not playing properly. Then you turn over the disc and shock, horror – it’s covered in scratches. Disaster!

21. Too much nostalgia in one picture

[adinserter block=”12″]

No words necessary.

22. Back when smelly stationery was all the rage…

[adinserter block=”10″]

The most exciting thing in the world was when your parents let you splash out on some ‘smellies’ for use in the classroom. We now feel sorry for anyone out there who was a teacher in the 90s and had a weak stomach.

23. What were we thinking?

[adinserter block=”11″]

For some reason, frilly socks were all the rage when we were growing up. You could get plain cotton ones that were appropriate for the classroom, or splash out on one of the stylish pairs above when you were going out at the weekend.

24. This happened to us so many times

[adinserter block=”12″]

It happened to the best of us!

25. Did you have a book of cheat codes?

[adinserter block=”10″]

If you had a Playstation, then you probably had at least one scrap of paper with a load of cheat codes furiously scribbled down ready for next time you played Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

How many of these things do you remember? If you think of any more, let us know in the comments section below!
