If you’re a Child of the 80s then surely you remember Grange Hill. It was first aired in 1978 on BBC1, and was one of the longest-running programmes on British television when it ended its run 30 years later in 2008.

We particularly remember it for traumatising us with some horrific deaths, such as Antoni Karamanopolis dying in episode fifteen of series three after he fell off the roof of a car park during a game of dare. There was also Jeremy Irvine drowning in series seven, and Danny Kendall dying of an unnamed neurological disorder in series twelve. The Danny Kendall one especially gave us nightmares!

Well, believe it or not Grange Hill is now 40 years old! Yes, you heard us right, the first episode aired on Thursday 8th February 1978, which makes us feel really, really old. And as reported by the Radio Times, fans have been quick to share their memories of the show…

One Twitter users commented on how scared he was of Imelda Davis when he was a child, which is something we definitely can relate to. Remember when, as part of her reign of terror, she used to steal other kid’s lunch money? And wasn’t it her that burnt people’s backs with some kind of loft insulation? Do let us know if we’ve remembered that correctly or whether it was a childhood dream!

Another user recalled “I watched from Tucker, Benny and Alan through to Robbie, Gonch, Ziggy and Cleaver. Kids miss out nowadays on their own soap. It had humour, was fun but also gave lessons like the drug addition storyline. I even warmed to Mrs McClusky, other teachers like Mr Baxter, and the old Caretaker, Mr Griffiths. Grange Hill was a great part of my childhood. They should definitely have re-runs.”

Another user fondly remembers watching the Grange Hill kids start school, grow up and leave…

Someone else went to quite some detail declaring their love for the show and its ‘gritty’ storylines…

Other Twitter users commented on everything from what’s eating Roland…

…to being absolutely terrified of Mr Bronson.
