30. Naomi Campbell
It’s very well known all the troubles that come with working with supermodel, Naomi Campbell.
One of the most famous of these incidents happened in 2001, when she threw a phone at her assistant.
The assistant claimed that Campbell ‘grabbed her by the arms and threw her down on a couch.’
In February 2000, Campbell pleaded guilty to a separate assault charge in relation to beating an assistant.
Then in 2016, Campbell face further legal action after allegedly assaulting a “former public schoolboy.”
The young man worked for a PR firm and was drafted in to rehabilitate Campbell’s public image. That clearly went well.
29. Taryn Manning
Taryn Manning is perhaps best known for her role in the acclaimed Netflix series, Orange Is The New Black.
In the series, her character of Pennsatucky is pretty wild and volatile in the first series. Well, it seems that the actress behind the character can be just as bad.
Taryn Manning once face charges of misdemeanour and assault after punching and choking her personal assistant, Holliann Hartman.
According to Manning’s lawyer, the two had a late-night argument that turned into a physical altercation.
Apparently, the two had been working long hours together when the actress attacked her.
Hartman later decided that she wouldn’t pursue the case further.
28. Courtney Love
The singer, Courtney Love, was sued by Jessica Labrie, her former personal assistant.
According to Rolling Stone, Labrie claimed that the singer “”acted with an improper and evil motive amounting to malice or despicable conduct.”
The assistant said she “worked over 60-hour weeks without overtime pay.”
She was also supposedly made to send false legal correspondence and was asked to hire a computer hacker.
To add to it, Love had promised to cover Labrie’s Yale tuition, but she reportedly never paid up.
Perhaps a stint at Yale would give Labrie the skills needed to get the hell out of there!
27. Lady Gaga
Back in 2013, Jennifer O’Neill, assistant to Lady Gaga, brought a lawsuit against her for unpaid overtime wages.
In court documents, O’Neill said she was on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The two would often share a bed because O’Neill never had her own hotel room whilst on tour.
She was apparently required to address Gaga’s needs throughout the night.
Gaga was also caught on tape saying some pretty damning things about the assistant.
She was caught saying: ‘[Jennifer is a] f***ing hood rat who is suing me for money that she didn’t earn.”
26. Jennifer Lopez
It’s well known that Jennifer Lopez is queen of divas, but it’s probably worse than you first thought.
According to one newspaper, the singer has supposedly banned staff working on her new home from talking to her or making eye contact with her.
According to one website, her are the requirements she gave for a new assistant:
“The person has to be graceful under pressure, have thick skin, and be resourceful in foreign countries.”
“You’ll be on call 24/7… You have to change diapers, work on little sleep, and cook if the butler is away.”
“You have to know when J. Lo has her snack time. She won’t say she’s hungry, and you’re expected to have food waiting.” So they’re after a mind-reader.
25. Lance Armstrong
We all know that Lance Armstrong is a bit of a cheater, after having admitted to doping during an interview with Oprah.
Well shortly after becoming Armstrong’s PA, Mike Anderson allegedly came upon one box of the banned substances, “Androstenedione.”
The box soon disappeared after he discovered it.
As time went on, Anderson began to feel more and more uncomfortable about things with his boss.
It wasn’t long before Armstrong fired Anderson, and he was asked to sign a nondisclosure agreement, “that would have made me liable for a large sum of money if I even mentioned ever having worked for Armstrong.”
He refused, and soon afterwards faced lawsuits and public scrutiny. This was before the truth finally came out, and Anderson had to move to New Zealand to pursue his dream of opening a bike shop.
24. Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan has always been known as a bit of a wild-child.
Her wild-child reputation was added to when Perez Hilton spilled a story about Lohan and her personal assistant.
According to Perez, Lohan kicked her personal assistant, Gavin Doyle, out of a car right after he bailed her out of jail.
That’s a really nice thing to do to someone just after you have bailed them from jail.
Gawker reported that she had also tried to blame a car accident on him earlier in the day.
She had told police he had been driving the car when it crashed.
23. Sharon Stone
Sharon Vonne Stone is an American actress, producer, and former fashion model.
She is also known for the horrible way she treats her staff.
According to court documents, doctors ordered one of Stone’s former employees, Angelica Castillo, to “undertake a brief period of bed rest.”
Apparently Stone denied Castillo’s request for a brief period of bed rest.
She told her that she would have to come in to work that day.
When Castillo mentioned that she was still in pain four months later, the actress allegedly called her “crazy and stupid.”
22. Katherine Heigl
Katherine Heigl is an American actress who appeared in Grey’s Anatomy and the films Knocked Up and 27 Dresses.
According to a source on the set of 27 Dresses, Heigl was a bit of a diva.
She reportedly refused to film any scenes until her pregnant assistant got her a Coke Zero.
She also refused to have lunch next to anyone or have anyone speak to her when the cameras stopped rolling.
It is this behaviour that has earned her a pretty bad rep in Hollywood.
Both actors and directors alike supposedly find her difficult to work with.
21. Christian Bale
Christian Bale is best known for playing Batman in Christopher Nolan’s versions of the film.
His personal assistant was called Harrison Cheung, and he was Bale’s assistant for over a decade.
Cheung ended up writing a biography about his time working for the actor. In it he wrote:
“If Christian was away filming on location, I would take care of his five pets, along with stray possums in the backyard as a special request.”
“I would do anything from sniffing Christian’s armpits for B.O. right before he hit the red carpet to making emergency sock runs if Christian was all out of clean ones.”
“Sometimes duties were as exciting as traveling to film festivals and as dull as watching Christian surf in case something needed to be done onshore. ”
Cheung told the Daily Mail, “My therapist would describe my condition as post-traumatic stress disorder.”
Madonna is yet another diva who is well-known for getting her own way.
And of course that attitude filters right down to the way she treats her staff. The Queen of Pop has got a pretty terrible reputation when it comes to personal assistants.
Madonna’s former nanny Angela once posted on Facebook that she was “fed up of this s**t” and actually quit online after growing fed up of the singer’s unreasonable demands.
And Angela wasn’t the only one of Madonna’s staff members to grow sick of the singer’s diva behaviour. In 2009, five(!) of Madonna’s personal staff walked out in the space of one week.
Call us crazy, but that’s not a very good staff turnaround. Two personal assistants, two nannies and one chauffeur all quit their jobs in the space of seven days.
Apparently Madonna made her staff work 24 hours a day and was an overbearing perfectionist when it came to managing her team. Label us ‘unsurprised’.
19. The Kardashians
So what’s it like working for America’s most famous (reality) family?
Apparently the Kardashian assistants don’t actually mind their bosses too much. But things always get interesting when one of the women decides to adopt a new pet.
Rumour has it that the assistants hate when one of the Kardashians decides to pay an impromptu visit to the pet shop – because they know that they’ll be the ones to take care of it.
An anonymous PA spoke to the press and said that the Kardashian clan cycle through dogs and cats like nobody’s business.
They buy animals on the spur of the moment before unceremoniously dumping them when they get bored.
In the meantime, we’re pretty sure we can guess who gets to pick up all the mess and drive to the vets. The Kardashians are too busy taking selfies for stuff like that.
18. Britney Spears
Britney Spears is one of the most famous pop singers in the world.
But she’s hardly been mentally stable over the years – after the infamous head shaving incident in 2007, Britney had to hand over control of her estate to her father, and it took a long time for the singer to return to the public eye.
Naturally this erratic behaviour had a knock-on effect when it came to Britney’s household staff. Spears’ former assistant was named Felicia Culotta, and she worked for the singer for over nine years.
However, Britney’s personal struggles sadly took a toll on their relationship and Culotta quit her job in 2007, right in the middle of the Toxic singer’s mental breakdown.
However, despite Culotta’s decision to leave, it seems as though the pair have managed to work past their troubles and the former employee is reportedly on excellent terms with her ex-boss.
In fact, after a brief two-year stint acting as an assistant to the Jonas brothers, Culotta returned to Britney’s household staff.
17. Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey is the ultimate diva, and everybody knows it.
So we’re pretty sure that most personal assistants should know what they’re getting into when they take up a job within Carey’s personal household staff.
But former assistant Ylser Oliver revealed the full extent of Carey’s controlling behaviour when she filed a lawsuit against the singer in 2014. And some of the details will astonish you…
Oliver testified that Carey had made her work 16-hour days, 7 days a week. Not only that, but Oliver was not paid any overtime for her efforts and even had to forego meal breaks!
Oliver actually lasted for seven years in the role but eventually quit in March 2007 and decided to get some compensation for her abysmal treatment. Her lawyer explained: “My client put her family’s life on hold while tending to Mariah Carey’s family, and Mariah repaid her by underpaying her.”
Ouch! Unfortunately it’s unclear whether or not Oliver actually received any money from the lawsuit.
16. David Beckham
Oh no! We thought David Beckham was one of the good guys…
Well it turns out that the claims of bad behaviour have been brought up by none other than Rebecca Loos, the former PR assistant to the footballer who claimed she had an affair with David while caring for their children.
Back in 2004, Loos made headlines when she sold a kiss and tell to the papers and claimed that her relationship with Beckham had become intimate – despite the fact that he is married to Victoria.
Loos revealed all the juicy details to a British journalist, but claimed in her tell-all that she felt ‘used’ by David and that their relationship made her feel ‘dirty’.
Rather than confirming Loos’ claims, the Beckhams came out and completely denied the story. So we’re not sure who to believe on this one…
There have been no other reports that David has acted inappropriately towards staff members, so we’re inclined to side with the footballer here. Especially when he looks like this:
15. Nigella Lawson
Nigella Lawson has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent years.
She had her very own ‘annus horribilis’ in 2013 when two of her former assistants revealed in a courtroom that Lawson had been allowing them to use her credit cards in return for their silence regarding her drug use.
The relationship between Lawson, her former husband Charles Saatchi and their PAs turned sour when it was revealed that the two assistants – Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo – had racked up thousands of pounds worth of credit card debt.
However, the Grillo sisters had no problem defending themselves in court by claiming that Nigella was a habitual cocaine user who had sought to bribe them with some company credit cards.
A judge sided with the two assistants and the Grillo sisters were acquitted of any wrongdoing. Meanwhile police said that they wouldn’t investigate Lawson over the drug claims.
We’re bet the TV chef was glad to see the back of that particular drama!
14. Anna Wintour
Anna Wintour is known for being the ultimate ice queen.
And while former assistant Lauren Weisberger has never outright stated anything negative about her old Vogue boss, the ex-employee has made a fortune with her book (and later movie adaptation) The Devil Wears Prada.
Everyone knows that the book is actually a veiled description of Wintour’s behaviour towards her employees. Miranda Priestley is the main character in the story, and she is a monster to her assistants.
Priestley is ruthless, demanding and doesn’t understand that her staff members have lives of their own.
She doesn’t get close to anybody and expects her assistants to be there for her day and night. Interesting that nobody in the fashion industry has come out to dispute these claims either.
When asked about the novel, Wintour simply stated: “I always enjoy a great piece of fiction.” The ice queen strikes again!
13. Sarah Jessica Parker
Unfortunately, SJP comes off as a complete psychopath when it comes to dealing with her staff members.
The Sex and the City star’s bad behaviour was once revealed by an anonymous former assistant who grew exasperated at having to deal with Parker’s ridiculous demands. See if you can keep up with all of this…
Apparently the actress had very strict instructions about how everything in her house should be used and presented. Her staff had to refill a 1.75 ounce container of vaseline with a small spoon or knife for her children to use.
The refill jar must not be too big and the cutlery must be handwashed using a paper towel, then cleaned in the dishwasher. Assistants were also responsible for refilling a bottle of face wash and Neutrogena body wash for her son James Wilkie.
Staff members were forbidden from buying multiples of anything and instead had to check the levels of each product in question daily. That way they would only be replaced once the product had completely run out.
Phew! We’re exhausted…and so were her former assistants.
12. Ben Stiller
Funny man Ben Stiller seems like the ideal guy to work for.
But apparently in reality, he’s anything but. An anonymous employee going by the fake name ‘Lucas Crosby’ worked for Stiller as a personal assistant but only managed two weeks in the job before quitting for good.
Crosby revealed that the actor has a thing about his hair – apparently he’s ‘constantly checking it’ and thus the assistant had to carry about a blow dryer and hair products at all times.
Stiller also has some very particular demands when it comes to his beloved iced tea. Crosby had to sweeten the tea with exactly “1.5 packets of Splendia inside 16 ounces of unsweetened iced tea” in a glass without condensation.
If the actor spotted any condensation on the glass, then the assistant had to wipe it off. Oh come on Ben, really?! That’s ridiculous…
All of those blockbuster movies must have gone to his head.
One former Sony producer seems to have backed up the claims, when a leaked email referred to Stiller as “a horrible human being”.
11. Keri Hilson
Singer Keri Hilson is best known for collaborations with Timbaland, as well as her film work.
But fans of the R&B star might not realise that she has a bit of a diva attitude when it comes to her staff members. Which is somewhat perplexing seeing as she’s not the most recognisable star in the world herself.
The rumours started when somebody overheard Hilson shouting and screaming at an anonymous assistant in a hotel one night.
Apparently the singer had several complaints about the staff member in question, including the fact that her assistant failed to remove a security tag from some pants.
As well as the pants incident, Hilson was screaming that the individual forgot her eye drops and throat spray. She also apparently “wasn’t able to do anything right.”
Yikes! We wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end of that.
10. Scott Rudin
Scott Rudin is notorious for his bad behaviour towards staff.
Rudin is apparently an extremely petty and nasty little man who somehow takes pride in the fact that he gets through so many personal assistants.
In 2005, he told the Wall Street Journal that he had been through a whopping 119 PAs in the past five years alone. Ridiculous. But that’s not all…
Those people still working for Rudin claimed that the actual number was closer to 250.
Some of the reasons that he fired assistants are absolutely ridiculous. Rudin dismissed people for bringing him the wrong muffins or slamming doors too loudly.
He also used to throw objects at people when they annoyed him, so we’re guessing there were a few resignations along the way too.
9. Clarence Thomas
Clarence Thomas’ bad behaviour didn’t stop him from being appointed to the Supreme Court.
Thomas was taken to court by his former assistant Anita Hill, who brought harassment charges against the judge in 1991 right before his hearings for Supreme Court nomination.
Hill claimed that her former boss had behaved in an extremely inappropriate manner towards her. Thomas supposedly used to try and get her to engage in dirty talk and used to describe his genitalia to her.
Poor Hill! She also claimed that Thomas was always making sexual remarks and even used to describe scenes from pornographic movies.
Unfortunately an all-male jury found that Hill’s testimony was inadequate and they appointed Thomas to the Supreme Court anyway.
She said he talked about naughty things to her constantly, including references to graphic scenes in adult movies and describing his genitalia. An all-male committee found Hill’s evidence to be inadequate and appointed Thomas to the Supreme Court anyway.
8. John Edwards
Senator John Edwards was well-served by Andrew Young for several years.
However, Young came under scrutiny when it was revealed that he had helped Edwards cover up the affair he was having with his mistress Rielle Hunter.
Everyone knows by now that Hunter actually became pregnant by Edwards, and Young publicly claimed that he was the father – just to help out his boss!
Now that’s employee dedication. Of course, Edwards was later forced to come out and state that he was the real biological dad.
Young later testified that Edwards had asked him to try and get Hunter to have an abortion, in order to cover up the scandal. This led to a serious misuse of campaign funds.
Yikes – Young really went above and beyond for his former boss!
7. Philip Green
Philip Green has really shown himself up to a nasty little man in recent months.
Green is currently at the centre of a scandal involving several former employees, who are claiming that the Topshop boss racially and sexually harassed them. Green tried to cover up the issue by demanding a press injunction, which has now been lifted.
Instead, Green’s intolerable behaviour has revealed that he once stated there were ‘too many black people’ in his organisation. He also used to refer to one Asian member of staff as ‘Bhaji’ and said that she had been eating too many curries.
Sounds like a right idiot! On top of that, Green is accused of inappropriately touching female staff members, and even grabbing one in a headlock at one point.
Green’s behaviour has now drawn the attention of the Queen, who is reviewing whether the business man should be stripped of his knighthood.
In any case, most people now agree that he sounds like a nightmare to work for.
6. Richard Scudamore
Scudamore is former head of the Premier League, so he’s had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders over the years.
He’s already attracted controversy once for receiving a ridiculous payout on his retirement, but apparently Scudamore has also been outed for his sexist behaviour towards one former female employee.
In 2014, his former assistant Rani Abraham revealed that she had been on the receiving end of some highly inappropriate emails from her ex-boss Scudamore.
He had sent her messages which included references to her “gash”, as well as “female irrationality” and “big-tittied-broads”. He sounds like a classy guy!
Scudamore apologised for his behaviour and was actually allowed to keep his cushy job at the head of the Premier League!
And people wonder why sexism still exists in the world of football.
5. Steven Seagal
Steven Seagal is an eccentric figure, to say the least.
And it turns out that you probably don’t want to work for him, if previous lawsuits are anything to go by. Seagal was sued by a former employee in 2010 and it doesn’t make for good reading.
Kayden Nguyen claimed that Seagal actually tried to grope her while she was working for him, and that the actor asked her several times to begin a physical relationship with him.
Charming! However, Seagal came out fighting and said that the story was a complete fabrication.
Eventually Nguyen was forced to drop the case, so it’s unclear who is really in the right on this one.
We’ll have to let Seagal off for now.
4. Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan is another surprising figure to appear on this list.
But according to one former employee, it’s not Pierce that is the real problem – it’s his wife of 18 years, Keely Shaye Smith, who is the real menace. Their former assistant aired some grievances on social media and it all got a little bit embarrassing for the Brosnan family.
An anonymous ex-employee claimed in an online message board that the actor was a perfect gentleman when it came to his personal staff.
However, Brosnan’s wife Keely was the exact opposite. Apparently she was a nightmare boss who used to be demanding and rude towards her employees.
Yikes! Pierce needs to get his wife under control, because otherwise more of their staff members will start blabbing to the press.
If this anonymous staff member is correct, then she does sound like a nasty piece of work.
3. Katt Williams
Katt Williams is a disgraced stand-up comedian.
He has been arrested countless times on a range of different charges, including several assault cases which have led to his four children being placed in protective custody. So it’s little wonder that he’s a horrible human being when it comes to his employees.
Williams doesn’t seem to mind getting violent towards members of the opposite sex, and that includes his former assistant. Angelina Triplett-Hill brought a lawsuit against the comedian and made some pretty shocking claims.
Apparently Triplett-Hill witnessed her ex-boss “violently beat other women in her presence”. Not only that, Williams once knocked his former assistant unconscious by hitting her square in the face. Awful.
Understandably, Triplett-Hill wanted compensation from Williams and sued him for more than $1 million. However, she might have to wait a while until she sees any money.
He’s in the middle of plenty of legal woes, so we’re not sure how much cash he has to fall back on at the moment.
2. Cesar Millan
Not the Dog Whisperer!
Yep, apparently Cesar Millan is an awful boss, despite the fact that we can only find photographs of him smiling and holding the cutest puppies imaginable. Things came to a head when former assistant Adriana Barnes came forward in 2014 and revealed Millan’s difficult working conditions.
Barnes was an employee at Millan’s specialist dog rehabilitation facility when she grew tired of having to put up with the ridiculous working hours and the dangerous animals at the centre.
Barnes stated that she was often forced to work very long hours without a break and was often bitten 5-6 times a day by vicious dogs. She was also trampled by a llama at one point!
When Barnes approached Millan about her issues with the rehab facility, the dog whisperer promptly sacked her without attempting to address the problem.
Wow! We didn’t expect that kind of behaviour from the smiley TV presenter.
1. Paula Deen
Paula Deen is the Food Network star responsible for a host of different cooking shows.
In 2002, she rose to fame as the star of Paula’s Home Cooking, and ever since then people can’t get enough of her friendly and smiley demeanour in front of the cameras. Unfortunately, she doesn’t act that way for her staff members.
Deen was on the receiving end of a lawsuit in 2013 when it was revealed that she had used the N-word in the presence of a black member of staff.
The chef was also accused of sexual harassment, and apparently shut down her Oyster House restaurant in 2014 via Facebook. Some employees didn’t see the message and showed up to work, wondering why the kitchen was completely empty.
She sounds like a great lady work for! That’ll make us think twice before watching one of her shows.
