20 Of The Most Bizarre Celebrity Feuds Ever
If you’ve ever had a heated interaction with another human being, you’ll understand that a ‘debate’ can sometimes go just a little too far… And it’s not just us ordinary folk who are prone to getting into the odd spat here and there. No, celebrities are also often quick to get in on the act whenever the occasion should arise.
Prior to the rise of the internet, any feuds between celebs would have been conducted face to face or through the rumour mill. However, in the current climate of social media and technology, just one small comment posted online is enough to start a war – and the world now being so connected means some unlikely public spats are beginning to take place.
We’ve rounded up 20 of the most bizarre celebrity feuds, some of which will quite frankly leave you baffled.
20. Charlie Sheen vs Rihanna
Charlie Sheen had some choice words for Rihanna after she allegedly shunned him in a savage act of betrayal back in 2014.
Sheen had been enjoying his fiancee Brett Rossi’s birthday dinner when he spotted the Umbrella singer and decided to send over a note asking her to join them.
According to Sheen, Rossi was a huge fan and just dying for the chance to meet her idol.
Unfortunately for Sheen, it seems Rihanna was otherwise occupied, prompting the actor to later post a poorly written rant on Twitter directed at the pop star.
Despite the fact that it was probably more of innocent mix-up than a deliberate snub, Sheen decided to get revenge by having a pop at Rihanna’s bad manners.
Sheen decided to get personal, calling out Rihanna’s hairstyle and telling her that “Halloween isn’t for a while”. Ouch.
19. Justin Bieber vs Tom Cruise
In 2019, Twitter was taken by storm when Justin Bieber randomly challenged Tom Cruise to a mixed martial arts fight.
A provisional plan was soon put in place, with Conor McGregor kindly offering to host the bout, and fans speculating about how the fight would play out.
Cruise remained tight-lipped over the proposal though, and it seemed his decision paid off.
Bieber soon backed down and admitted defeat before the fight had even begun, saying “I think he would probably whoop my a** in a fight…. He’s got that dad strength.”
Given that Cruise has numerous action franchises under his belt, and is famed for his dedication to hard training and stunt work in his movies, we’re a little inclined to agree.
After-all, if Cruise has the dedication to obtain a pilot’s licence just to shoot a movie scene, he could probably commit to beating Justin Bieber in a fight.
18. Jim Carrey vs Mussolini’s granddaughter
Now, Jim Carrey and the granddaughter of one of the most prominent dictators of all time are two people we probably wouldn’t associate with one another.
However, the pair got into a pretty heated Twitter spat after the actor-turned-political cartoonist posted a drawing of Alessandra Mussolini’s grandfather.
- Credit: Giuseppe Nicoloro via Wikimedia Commons
The cartoon depicted her grandfather and his mistress strung up by their feet after being executed by firing squad.
The somewhat macabre caption to the drawing read: “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.”
Alessandra was rattled by the slight, and proceeded to spend the rest of the day delivering an angry Twitter monologue.
Carrey opted to stay silent throughout the backlash, although Twitter seemed to have limited sympathy for Mussolini’s plight.
17. Jonah Hill vs Don Lemon
Jonah Hill made headlines back in 2012 when he was engaged in a particularly nasty feud with CNN’s Don Lemon.
Lemon started the spat when he tweeted: “Said hi to @jonahhill in hotel. Think he thought I was bellman. Didn’t know his name til bellman told me. A lesson to always be kind.”
Hill was apparently rather confused by Lemon’s tweet, and responded with: “I said hi what do you want me to do move in with you? I was in a hurry. Didn’t realize you were a 12 year old girl. Peace.”
Chaos later ensued, with Lemon labelling Hill “rude” and calling him out directly on CNN, which Hill didn’t respond to.

However, like many of the most intense celebrity feuds, the drama soon fizzled out, with Lemon probably realising that he had overreacted.
Many other celebrities have also talked about Jonah Hill being a really nice and down-to-earth guy, so maybe it really was just an understanding.
16. Cher vs Donald Trump
Donald Trump is renowned for his bizarre spats, but things reached a new level when he engaged in a baffling Twitter feud with legendary singer and actress Cher.
Cher instigated the bitter quarrel when she launched a tirade against Macy’s, stating she would never shop there due to the store’s association with Trump.
- Credit: Ralph_PH via Flickr
Cher then attacked the now-President’s hairstyle, referring to it as a “rug”, in a characteristically emoji-filled tirade.
Trump responded in typical Trump fashion, rather pointedly criticising the quality of Cher’s cosmetic surgery.

Cher’s Twitter has been unabashedly political ever since, never missing an opportunity to state her disdain for the current regime.
Trump has also gotten into several Twitter spats in the time since, and has made his dislike of Cher known on several occasions.
15. Kendall Jenner vs Frances Bean Cobain
You wouldn’t expect the daughter of one of the most famous ever rock stars and a teenage reality star to cross paths all that regularly – but that’s where the magic of Twitter comes into play.
The whole Kendall Jenner/Frances Bean Cobain spat started when Jenner tweeted that she “wished things could be easier”.
- Credit: Lil Hodge via Flickr
We can only imagine that being a rich, famous reality star is extremely arduous, but unfortunately for Jenner, Cobain disagreed.
Cobain rather pointedly went on to list for Jenner some of the horrific circumstances endured by billions across the globe, including drought, cancer and famine, to name just a few.

Jenner took her time to reply, not tweeting back that day or even the next, but she did eventually put together a response.
She tweeted back that Cobain didn’t know her or what she was referring to, and that all feelings are individual to a person’s environment.
14. Alec Baldwin vs American Airlines
In 2011, Alec Baldwin took to Twitter to express his rage after he was kicked off an American Airlines flight for refusing to stop playing Words with Friends.
And let’s face it, who can blame him? Words with Friends is a great game, and this is only further proof of its ability to engage its users.
However, it seems Baldwin might have played a little fast and loose with the truth, as American Airlines released a statement giving their version of events.
According to the airline, “this passenger (Alec Baldwin) declined to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time”.
Of course, Baldwin would hardly be the first celebrity to flout the rules in this way if that was all he had done, but it apparently got fairly dramatic.
The airline went on to say that “The passenger ultimately stood up (with seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane’s lavatory. He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed”.
13. Moby vs Natalie Portman
In May 2019, Moby released his memoir titled Then It Fell Apart, in which he describes a past ‘romantic relationship’ with an apparently then-20-year-old Natalie Portman.
Whilst this pairing is bizarre in itself, what happened next truly took the biscuit, as Moby had according to Portman either misremembered or misinterpreted the situation.
Portman was quick to refute Moby’s claims, explaining that contrary to Moby’s version of events, the pair had a fleeting encounter which she would hardly describe as dating.
Instead, she described the experience as “a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school”, which is worlds away from how Moby had made it sound.
Portman also explained that she was actually 18 at the time, and even provided photographic evidence to clear up any confusion.
Meanwhile, Moby had gone on record to explain that he was confused by Portman’s remarks, which is just awkward all round.
12. Gwyneth Paltrow vs Martha Stewart
On the face of it, it doesn’t seem like blockbuster actress Gwyneth Paltrow and celebrity businesswoman Martha Stewart should have anything in common.
However, Stewart has made a career out of promoting a certain lifestyle, by hosting TV shows, selling merchandise and writing books about cooking and other aspects of home living.
Paltrow’s pivot to lifestyle happened later, but her brand Goop has been a go-to for anyone wanting to fill their life with crystals, serums, vitamins and quartz. This has made the two rivals, even if Stewart appears to be the only one who knows it.
In a 2013 TV interview, Stewart subtly implied she thought Paltrow’s actual lifestyle bore no resemblance to her Goop brand, and that Paltrow should respect the fact that Stewart actually popularised the lifestyle trend.
Later, after Paltrow announced her divorce using the phrase “conscious uncoupling”, Stewart made a pie parodying the phrase and shared the recipe.
Hitting back, Paltrow posted a recipe for Jailbird Cake on her own blog, referencing the time that Martha Stewart was arrested and sent to prison for securities fraud and obstruction of justice.
11. Sylvester Stallone vs Richard Gere
Tension started brewing between Richard Gere and Sylvester Stallone on the set of 1974’s The Lords of Flatbush, in which they were both set to star.
Unfortunately, Stallone took an instant dislike to future Pretty Woman star Gere, whose role was ultimately recast.
Things came to a head after an altercation over some chicken grease got physical. In a 2006 interview, Stallone explained:
“I was eating a hot dog and [Gere] climbs in with a half a chicken covered in mustard with grease nearly dripping out of the aluminium wrapper.”
“I said, ‘If it gets on my pants, you’re gonna know about it.’ He proceeds to bite into the chicken and a small, greasy river of mustard lands on my thigh.”
“I elbowed him in the side of the head and basically pushed him out of the car.” Gere was subsequently fired from the movie.
10. Justin Bieber vs Orlando Bloom
Justin Bieber has never had a reputation for being polite, measured and reasonable at all times – so it’s perhaps not surprising that he’s indulged in several celebrity rivalries over the years.
However, his rivalry with actor Orlando Bloom made waves in the press for its dramatic conclusion, as well as its fairly childish subject matter.
In 2012, Bieber appeared in a photoshoot with Bloom’s then-wife Miranda Kerr, with the pair supposedly hitting it off and Bieber attempting to stay in contact several times.
As a result, when Bloom and Bieber found themselves at the same holiday destination in 2014, they weren’t exactly warm to each other.
However, this rivalry escalated when Bieber allegedly made a comment to Bloom, claiming to have been intimate with his ex-wife while the two were still married.
This was all it took for an altercation to break out, with Bloom throwing punches at Bieber and even leaping over a sofa to confront the singer. Needless to say, the two haven’t made up since.
9. Sinead O’Connor vs Frank Sinatra
Despite working in the same industry, Sinead O’Connor and Frank Sinatra could have easily gone their entire lives without crossing paths.
It was actually pure coincidence that ignited their feud, with the two playing the same venue on consecutive nights back in 1991.
As was principal for O’Connor, she requested that the national anthem not be played before her concert at a venue in New Jersey.
When Frank Sinatra took to the stage the next night, after allowing the song to play, he opened his set by threatening to “kick [O’Connor] in the ass” for what he perceived to be a great act of disrespect.
O’Connor responded about as gracefully as is possible, referencing the drama during a TV interview and playfully saying that she could probably successfully fight Sinatra due to his age, but that she would feel bad doing it.
This was not the first time O’Connor had landed in hot water, given that she was almost booed offstage in the same year for ripping up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live, as a protest against sexual violence in the Catholic Church.
8. Avril Lavigne vs Mark Zuckerberg
Avril Lavigne originally made a name for herself as a combination of pop princess and tomboy punk, so it makes sense that she would retain some anti-establishment tendencies as she grew older.
However, no one predicted that she would end up in a Twitter spat with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
- Credit: Anthony Quintano via Wikimedia Commons
Zuckerberg appeared in a 2016 advertisement for a piece of software called Jarvis, where he asked the AI to play some good Nickelback songs.
The AI joking replies that he can’t, because there are no good Nickelback songs. Lavigne, who was married to Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger for two years, said the advert promoted bullying.
In a scathing note posted to Twitter, Lavigne said that the CEO should consider being “more responsible” with his huge reach and influence.
She ended the note with three hashtags: #SayNoToBullying, #TheJokeIsOld, and #NickelbackHasSoldOver50MillionAlbums.
7. Jimmy Kimmel vs Kanye West
Kanye West is an artist who is no stranger to spats, rivalries and controversies – although his ire is usually directed at other high profile musicians.
In 2013 there came a change of pace, though, when West entered into an intense quarrel with talk show presenter Jimmy Kimmel.
Kimmel ran a clip on his show where two children lip-synched along to a BBC interview with West, during which he called himself the biggest rockstar in the world.
Before running the video, Kimmel quipped that someone should tell West that he didn’t have to be his own hype man, which was apparently enough to push the rapper over the edge.

West launched a Twitter tirade against the late night host, calling him manipulative and shallow, and praising the authenticity of his own interview.
The two later made up, with West agreeing to appear on Kimmel’s show again, and Kimmel saying he enjoyed the comedy of the whole situation.
6. Kim Kardashian vs Bette Midler
When Kim Kardashian posted a nude mirror selfie on Twitter, several other celebrities decided to make their opinions on the picture known.
The most infamous response came from Bette Midler, who tweeted in response: “Kim Kardashian tweeted a nude selfie today. If Kim wants us to see a part of her we’ve never seen, she’s gonna have to swallow the camera.”
Not to be outdone, Kim Kardashian quickly fired back: “I know it’s past your bedtime but if you’re still up and reading this send nudes.”
Not only that, but to ensure everybody got the message about the two’s non-existent friendship, Kardashian followed that up by tweeting “I really didn’t want to bring up how you sent me a gift awhile back trying to be a fake friend then come at me”.
As for Midler, she seemed to approach the whole feud with a tongue-in-cheek spirit, responding in a mock-flattered way about how she was asked to send pictures to Kim Kardashian.
She later clarified in an interview that to her, Twitter is all about fun and games, and should not be taken too seriously.
5. John Legend vs Donald Trump Jr.
Politics is one of many subjects that Twitter isn’t the best platform for, given both how heated conversations about politics can get and how difficult it is to convey nuance in 240 characters.
So it’s not surprising that celebrities have gotten into Twitter wars about politics before, even if the particular match-up of singer John Legend and President Donald Trump’s son was unexpected.
The spat began when Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter to critique the protestors appearing at his father’s political rallies, specifically asking if they even knew what they were protesting.
John Legend was quick to respond, jumping into the thread to say “I think they were protesting your racist father, this isn’t complicated”.

Trump Jr. responded by accusing Legend of saying everything he disagreed with was racist and called him uneducated for good measure.
Legend’s response was to remind him that both he and Donald Trump graduated from the same university. Touche.
4. Marilyn Manson vs Justin Bieber
As far as unlikely rivalries go, shock rocker Marilyn Manson and former child pop star Justin Bieber are about as strange as it is possible to go.
Serving to make the situation even weirder is the fact that this argument started due to Bieber being a fan of Manson.
Allegedly, Bieber began selling a t-shirt at his concerts that was taken wholesale from a Marilyn Manson design, with Manson being thanked on Instagram for being kind enough to let Bieber use his slogan and likeness.
The trouble is, Manson had apparently heard nothing about the design, and quickly hit out at Bieber for using it.
In turn, Bieber implied that Manson should be grateful for the mix-up, since it was making him relevant again and getting him back in the headlines.
This only enraged Manson further, who mentioned in interviews that he didn’t think much of the singer, and had been slighted by him every time they had met.
3. Ryan Murphy vs Kings Of Leon
As the creator of Glee, Ryan Murphy spent a lot of time requesting the rights for the music of various bands, in order to use it in the show.
Plenty of artists opted not to let their songs be covered on Glee, but only one got into a serious argument with the show’s creator about it.
- Credit: Flickr
When Kings of Leon opted not to licence out their song Use Somebody to the show, Murphy accused them of being self-centred in an interview, and said they were missing “The big picture”.
As for Kings of Leon, they were completely taken aback by the response, saying they had opted to turn down the opportunity because they were at the end of an album cycle, and thus didn’t need to promote that particular single anymore.
Still, the band opted to clarify that they never meant to snub the show or its fans, clarifying that they’d never even heard of the programme.
As for Murphy, he quickly turned his ire on Guns N’ Roses, who refused to feature their music on Glee and slammed the show for being against the spirit of rock and roll.
2. Russell Crowe vs Azealia Banks
Few celebrity rivalries are as inexplicable as the one that developed between Azealia Banks and Russell Crowe.
The two allegedly clashed at a hotel party in 2016, with Oscar-winning actor Crowe – according to Banks – spewing racist remarks at the singer, and Banks threatening to fight him in return.
Details are difficult to verify, but Banks did file battery charges following the incident, saying all she wanted was for Crowe to apologise, which he refused to do.
Other witnesses on the scene confirmed seeing Crowe spitting at Banks, which Crowe’s lawyers later said was justified given the imminent violence he was facing.
Nothing came of the battery charges, but it is safe to say that the two celebrities probably won’t be burying the hatchet any time soon.
That’s especially true given that Banks responded by posting a GoFundMe, in order to raise money to sue Crowe.
1. Madonna vs Courtney Love
Celebrities might seem outrageous and impulsive now, but there’s no denying that the 90s were a golden age for celeb drama.
Back in 1995, the MTV Music Video Awards was the highlight of everyone’s social calendar, which meant there was plenty of alcohol plus a ton of huge personalities in one place.
But a group of highly-strung performers tightly packed into one room was always destined to end in tears.
At least, that was the case for Madonna, after Courtney Love decided to pull a hilarious prank and throw a compact mirror at her head in the middle of an interview.
Madonna was understandably furious, and even more so when Love quite literally crashed the interview.
Cue one of the most awkward televised interviews of all time, in which an almost definitely inebriated Love clumsily tried to placate a probably inebriated Madonna. It didn’t work.
