Nothing pleased us more as a child than sitting down to watch one of our favourite cartoons, and we’re sure you will agree that the 1980s gave us some of the greatest animated TV shows of all time.

We recently created a poll on social media to determine the greatest cartoons of our entire childhood, and so extensive and passionate were your responses that we’ve decided to split our findings into two. So before we discover what you voted as the top 10 greatest classic cartoons, let’s take some time to explore positions 11 to 30 with the following retro-tastic rundown.

30. Stoppit and Tidyup

You may be shocked to learn that the likes of Count Duckula, The Smurfs, She-Ra, Jem and Rainbow Brite did not make our cartoon countdown, so we instead begin with Stoppit and Tidyup, two lovable characters who were created to encourage us youngsters to throw away our litter.

29. The Centurions

Forcing us to shout “Power Xtreme!” on a regular basis were the Centurions, whose tie-in toys were every bit as good as the animated versions of the characters in their brilliant TV series.

28. My Little Pony

Loved by millions of youngsters across the globe and still going strong today, My Little Pony was a true 80s phenomenon that invaded every aspect of our young lives.

27. Mighty Mouse

He made his magnificent debut way back in 1942, but Mighty Mouse was enjoyed by millions of children over many subsequent decades.

26. Around the World with Willy Fog

Around the World with Willy Fog was a globe-trotting adventure with a surprising twist ending and one of the greatest theme tunes of all time.

25. DuckTales

Donald Duck himself may not have been one of the main characters in DuckTales, but his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie rose to the challenge superbly in this Indiana Jones-style animated adventure series.

24. Ulysses 31

With a surprisingly adult tone and a storyline that was inspired by the gods of Greek mythology, Ulysses 31 is a show that we wish had lasted longer than just 26 episodes.

23. The Animals of Farthing Wood

Seemingly taking inspiration from Watership Down in the way it treated its cute talking animals, The Animals of Farthing Wood was essential viewing for those of us who were still watching cartoons in the 1990s.

22. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors may have been created solely to sell Mattel’s range of Wheeled Warriors toys, but it was an entertaining series that we wish had ended with a more satisfying conclusion.

21. The Moomins

Hailing from a series of Swedish books and comics, the Moomins found fame in a 1980s stop motion show, as well as in a subsequent cartoon re-imagining.

20. The Poddington Peas

The Poddington Peas theme tune told us that they lived “down at the bottom of the garden,” and this delightful 13-episode 80s cartoon is one that we revisited over and over again.

19. The Trap Door

It may not officially be a cartoon, but so many of you voted for The Trap Door that we would have felt incredibly guilty had we removed it from our nostalgic animated countdown!

18. The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Personally we would have voted The Mysterious Cities of Gold as the greatest cartoon of our entire childhood, but we’re still delighted to have it included on this list.

17. The Real Ghostbusters

The Real Ghostbusters was a seriously spooky treat that scared and delighted us in equal measure when we were growing up.

16. M.A.S.K.

M.A.S.K. was one of our very favourite 1980s animations, but we do admit that the toys gave us a great deal more pleasure than the occasionally below par tie-in cartoon series.

15. The Raccoons

The Raccoons followed Bert, Ralph and Melissa Racoon in their regular battles against the evil millionaire aardvark Cyril Sneer.

14. Care Bears

We expected it to feature higher on our list of classic animations, but there’s no doubt that many of you still have a lot of love for the cute and cuddly Care Bears.

13. Raggy Dolls

The Raggy Dolls are a collection of throwaway toys that we fell in love with the very first time we watched their delightful animated TV series.

12. Wacky Races

If you’re anything like us then you will have loved guessing which car was going to win at the end of every episode of Wacky Races.

11. Adventures of the Gummi Bears

Just failing to break into our top 10 cartoon countdown were Disney’s gorgeous Gummi Bears. Be sure to check out who did make the animated elite in our separate retrotastic post!
