31+ Of The Best Photos Of Unexplained Creatures Ever Taken

With the advances in technology and the invention of the internet, the world is becoming a smaller place. Things that were once mysterious and exotic are now normal.

We can no longer marvel at things that are mysterious because, well, they’re not. We’ve explored everywhere nearly there is to explore and there are not many mysterious things to discover.

Well…not quite. Legends of strange creatures and animals still enchant us, rare creatures like Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster. We like to believe these things exist, and it fills us with intrigue.

Reports of sitings of these creatures pop up every now and again, and even more excitingly, so do photos! We’ve complied fifteen of the best photos of unexplained creatures ever taken!

22. Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster is perhaps one of the most well known and well documented mythical creature legends of the modern age.

In Scottish folklore, The Loch Ness Monster, affectionately known as ‘Nessie,’ is a creature that lives in the waters of Loch Ness.

It is characterised as being large in size, with humps and a long neck, often like a Plesiosaur.

The earliest known report of a monster in the Loch appears in the Life of St. Columbia by Adomnan.

The story goes that the Irish monk, Saint Columba, was staying in the land of the Picts with his companions when she encountered  local residents burying a man by the River Ness.

They explained that the man was swimming in the river when he was attacked by a “water beast” which mauled him and dragged him underwater.

Although they tried to rescue him in a boat, he was dead. Columba sent a follower, Luigne moccu Min, to swim across the river. The beast approached him, but Columba made the sign of the cross and said: “Go no further. Do not touch the man. Go back at once.” The creature stopped as if it had been “pulled back with ropes” and fled, and Columba’s men and the Picts gave thanks for what they perceived as a miracle.

Many photos purported to show the beast have been taken over the years.

21. The Beast Of Tenby

This little creature is known as the Beast of Tenby.

It was washed up on a beach in the UK.

Of course, a strange creature couldn’t wash up without being photographed by resident, Peter Bailey,  who was taking his dog for a walk.

It had five toes, an odd snout, sharp teeth and was once covered in hair.

He gave an interview to his local paper, the Western Telegraph.

“I was taking my dog for her evening walk across the south beach when she started acting out of character by howling and running round in circles,” Bailey told the Western Telegraph.

“I ran up to her to see if she was ok and then I came across this hideous looking carcass. I could see it had little hair left on it’s decomposing body. Immediately I thought it was a horse but it had claws like a bear and a body of a pig. Surprisingly it didn’t smell.”

Many people believe it to just be a washed up dead badger.

It has never been identified and only photos remain.

20. The Goatman Of Maryland

Goats shouldn’t walk on two legs right? Well, apparently this one does.

According to the legend, the Maryland Goatman is half man, half goat.

Not only that, but it carries around an axe, roaming the backroads of Beltsville.

Some people say he is an old hermit who lives in the forest in Beltsville.

He apparently accidentally turned himself into a hideous creature while doing experiments with animal and human DNA.

Another story says he was once a scientist who worked in the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center.

The tale holds that he was experimenting on goats until one experiment backfired, and he was mutated, becoming goat-like himself.

Do you believe in the supernatural?

19. The Fallen Angel

A video showing a purported ‘fallen angel’ was captured in Spain.

We think it’s absolutely terrifying.

It was taken by a group of people hiking through the forests of Catelonia in northern Spain.

It shows a strange creatures that turns towards the camera at the end with strange, glowing eyes.

It’s quite a creepy video, and we’d like to think actual angels look a little bit more…well, angelic than this one!

Just look at it’s deformed body!

Maybe it’s this lady here, in our post on 22 Of The Weirdest, Most Unexplained Photos On The Internet Right Now.

18. The Greek Sea Monster

Lots of people take this photo of evidence that sea monsters exist.

It was taken off the coast of Greece by a Scottish tourist (perhaps Nessie had followed him.)

Harvey Robertson, 52, was on a boat cruise with his family in Corfu, Greece, when he captured a number of photographs inside a sea cave.

“I caught the picture by accident. I was in a sea cave on a small boat about 20 miles south of Albania on the west coast of Greece,” Mr Robertson said.

“I was trying to capture the water colour and was not looking at the water, the flash went off. I only saw the creature when looking back through my pics.”

It appears to be crossed between a hippo and a dolphin, with a long snout-like thing.

What do you think it is?

17. The Ilkley Moor Alien

There is an extremely compelling account of an alien abduction which took place in 1987 on Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire.

The case is fairly unique in that it may include one of the very few photographs taken showing a live alien being.

The account comes from retired policeman, Philip Spencer.

Here is another image of supposed aliens on Ilkley Moor.

He claims to have been taken aboard an unidentified flying object.

He also claimed to have snapped one photograph of an unknown being.

When Philip left the moor, his compass was pointing in the wrong direction.

His watch was also an hour behind.

After studying the photos, experts asserted that the creature was about four foot tall.

They also said the original image had not been interfered with.

16. The Elongated Monkey

Imagine discovering this terrifying thing on your walk through an already terrifying jungle.

This odd-looking thing was found in the jungle.

It was small but stretched out and twisted.

Some believe it to be a new species that is perhaps roaming around in the jungle.

I guess it’s a dense and unexplored place, so we will never know.

But lets face it. It’s just a monkey.

15. Mermaids

Some extraordinary footage was taken aboard a mini-submarine in the Greenland Sea.

One crew member is busy filming when a white ‘hand’ appears on the glass behind him.

The hand is accompanied with an inhuman face, and the creature quickly swims off again.

The only way this could have been hoaxed, is if this was staged at 3,000 ft under water.

A man called Aaron Fisher wrote:

“A diver wouldn’t be able to withstand the pressure.”

“A diver even with protective suits can only dive about 1,000ft the deepest dive so far has been 1,200ft.

“I didn’t see any kind of air tank or anything to help it breath.

“The eyes glowed telling me its a nocturnal creature or at least its eyes have adapted to be able to see in the dark under the water where the light hardly reaches.

“Also the creature moved too fast to be a diver, divers don’t normally swim that fast even with flippers.”

14. The Hook Island Monster

This is a photo of a supposed giant tadpole-like sea creature encountered in Stonehaven Bay, Hook Island, Queensland.

It was taken bu Robert Le Serrec with his family and a friend during the December of 1964.

They thought that the animal had taken to rest in the shallow bay.

The eyes were located at the top of the head and well away from the front of the snout.

Its eyes were apparently pale and slit shaped. It was mostly black in colour, the animal had brown transverse stripes and its skin was smooth in texture.

It possessed no fins nor spines of any kind and they didn’t see teeth inside the white mouth.

13. Skunk Ape of Florida

For years, Florida residents have spoken about the legendary Skunk Ape.

It is believed to be a bigfoot type creature that has an awful smell.

It has been reported by hundreds of people.

In 2000, this photo was sent in to the Sarasota Sheriff.

A note with the photo alleged that the creature frequents a home in Sarasota and that the photographer even leaves treats for it.

We wish a photographer would leave treats for us!

12. A Real-Life Fairy?

If you thought fairies supposed to be beautiful, think again.

I certainly wouldn’t describe this fairy as beautiful.

This photo was taken in 2007 by a man in London.

It shows a humanoid creature, about the size of a hand with wings that look like leaves.

He said he dug it up alongside a roadside in Derbyshire, England.

Perhaps the most famous hoax photograph taken of fairies is the one above, known as the Cottingley Fairies hoax.

He later claimed that the entire thing was a hoax but many people think he only said this because he didn’t like the media attention and requests for more information.

Who knows, perhaps fairies are real after all!

11. Bigfoot

Bigfoot is probably one of the most well-known and beloved of all the cryptids potentially roaming the hills somewhere.

There have been many reported sightings over the years.

Perhaps the most famous of all photos supposedly taken of the beast is this one above.

It was taken alongside a video, and was taken by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin.

On 20th October, 1967, they were out riding their horses in the Bluff Creek area of California.

They were researching recent Sasquatch reports when they came across an overturned tree.

Incredibly, walking about 120 feet away from where they stood, was the very creature they had been looking for.

Patterson filmed the encounter on his 16mm camera.

He jumped down from his horse and ran after the creature, but stopped when the 7-foot beast glanced over its shoulder and looked directly at him before disappearing again into the trees.

Many scientists have judged the video to be nothing more than a hoax.

10. The Michigan Dogman

For years there have been sightings of the Michigan Dogman.

This is one of the most recent sightings of the terrifying creature.

This photo was taken by a boy in the back of his parent’s minivan.

The creature is described as a seven-foot tall, blue-eyed, or amber-eyed bipedal canine-like animal with the torso of a man and a fearsome howl that sounds like a human scream.

According to legends, the Michigan Dogman appears in a ten-year cycle that falls on years ending in 7.

The first alleged encounter of the Michigan Dogman occurred in 1887 in Wexford County, when two lumberjacks saw a creature which they described as having a man’s body and a dog’s head.

Sounds like something from Game of Thrones in our opinion.

9. These Strange Corpses

Next up, we have three strange creatures caught on camera sometime after they had perished.

For those taking the photos, they were probably grateful to not have them running around everywhere.

Firstly, we have this photo above. Farmers discovered the corpse of this creature whilst working in a field.

Little is known about the photo or the creature itself.

We think it looks a little bit like Gollum from The Lord of The Rings.

Secondly, we’ve got this terrifying thing.

It looks like a cross between a lizard, a human, a crocodile, a dragon, we’ve no idea.

It’s got some nasty looking teeth, so whoever took the photo must have been pleased that it had been long deceased.

And finally, there’s this little creature, captured by people in a village near a big forest.

Many people believe the creature to be a deformed baby of some sort, an animal that was left to die.

8.  The Witch

Someone was driving down a road when they snapped this creature sliding along.

Many people believe it to be a witch, but not the witches you’re used to seeing with pointy hats and brooms.

This is a twisted, haggard, mutilated thing.

If I saw this, I’d get the hell out of there straight away.

I wouldn’t hang around to take a photo of it.

7. The Yeti

Perhaps just as beloved and elusive as Bigfoot is it’s snowy cousin, the Yeti.

The Yeti is said to be similar to Bigfoot, only it’s white to blend in with its snowy surroundings.

This photo is part of a video taken at a Spanish ski resort taken in February of 2016.

The slightly grainy, but definitely clear footage, appears to show a large, shaggy white figure walking upright making its way between fir trees on the slopes of Formigal.

The post sparked plenty of debate as to what the creature could be.

Some say it could be a polar bear, others a soldier completing manoeuvres in mountain camouflage and some said it was a man in a furry suit.

The owners of the resort launched a search of the area where the creature was sighted.

A spokesman for the resort, which hosted the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in 2008, tried to reassure visitors saying:

“We have spoken to the witnesses of the sighting to identify the area in which it took place and after combing the area we have found nothing.

This is a picture taken by a British explorer taken in 1951.

The footprints measure between 12 and 13 inches long, and it is this picture that sparked the debate as to the existence of the Yeti.

6. The Montauk Monster

This hit headlines in 2009 when it washed up on the beach of Montauk, New York.

What the creature is and the validity of the stories surrounding it have been subject of much controversy and speculation.

It is not known what happened to the carcass.

It is thought to have mysteriously disappeared.

Some people believe it to be an animal that had somehow escaped from the nearby Plum Island Animal Disease Centre.

That sounds pretty mysterious to us!

This is a government run facility dedicated to the research and to the study of animal diseases.

So if this thing got out, perhaps it was pretty diseased!

It is widely thought to have been a washed up racoon.

5. The Point Pleasant Mothman

This photo allegedly shows the Mothman.

This is a creature that haunted the town of Mount Pleasant in the 60s.

It has reportedly been seen by dozens of people.

It is said to be half human, half insect, have bright red eyes and a large wingspan.

It has been linked to UFO activity in the area.

Some people even believe it caused the Silver Bridge to collapse in 1967.

So prevalent is the myth, that the town has even erected a statue of the moth-man.

The Silver Bridge, a large bridge spanning the river in the town, collapsed on December 15th, 1967.

46 people died and the incident gave rise to the legend and connected the Mothman sightings to the bridge collapse.

4. The Beast Of Dartmoor

This doesn’t resemble any sort of creature I’ve seen roaming the British countryside.

This is supposed to show the Beast of Dartmoor.

There have been sightings of supposed beasts on the wild moors around the area for many years.

Dozens of people have reported seeing the creature.

Most people describe it as being like a huge black cat.

It is thought to look similar to a panther, or a large dog.

3. The Russian Sea Creature

This creature washed up on the shore in Sakhalin, Russia.

It looks pretty elongated, like most fish, but it is huge.

It could not be identified, but many people believe it could have been the carcass of a plesiosaur.

It was over 15 ft long and scientists quickly determined it was not a crocodile, fish or alligator.

Some people have claimed that it may be the remains of a whale and others believe it is a new species that lives in the depths of ocean.

Scientist are still working to determine what the creature might be even though it was found twelve years ago.

2. The Chupacabra

At number two, we have this stunning picture of what is meant to be a chupacabra.

It is also known as the ‘Mexican goat sucker.’

Mexican farmers often find their sheep, goat and even cows dead and drained of all their blood.

It must be pretty difficult for a creature so small to take down a whole cow.

Nobody could work out what was responsible, and then sightings began to pop up across the country and the United States.

It is claimed that the creature responsible is the legendary Chupacabra, a creature of folklore that attacks livestock.

What do you think? Do you believe these photos the Chupacabra?

1. This Terrifying Alien Creature

This little creature was allegedly found in a trap in Mexico.

The poor fella looks pretty dead to us.

When it was found, it was alive and moving and at least four other people saw the creature.

It was said to be small and human-like, which can easily be seen in the pictures.

For some bizarre reason, the people who found it decided to drench it in acid.

It died and was mummified.

The creature can still be seen today.

The ranch owner who found it died shortly afterwards.

Many people think the creature may be to blame.

Tests on the animal have shown it to have both human and reptilian DNA.
