One thing that seems to stay with us for years are the films we watch as children. We often seem to remember them through rose-tinted glasses, but some of them remain classics that stand up to being re-watched over and over throughout our lives and we never get sick of. Let’s take a look at some of the kids and family films from our youth, how many do you remember and how many do you still watch now?

1. Short Circuit

The story of the robot, Johnny 5 who becomes alive after being struck by a bolt of lightning and the adventures he then goes on to avoid being captured.

2. Batteries Not Included

A classic family film about some alien beings in the form of small robots who come and help an aged family who are in danger of losing their home and their livelihood.

3. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

The story of two teenage lads who have a history assignment and are given access to a time machine. Classic comedy from the time with great performances from its stars.

4. Annie

The musical hit about the orphan who is taken in by a wealthy man, but whose nasty keeper from the orphanage tries to kidnap her back!

5. The Goonies

One of the great adventure films of the era, The Goonies is one of those that has stuck with us for decades, with many films trying to copy it, but never succeeding to get it quite right!

6. Flight of the Navigator

Another classic fantasy film, as a young boy becomes the navigator on a spaceship and goes on an adventure then comes back years later to find things have changed.

7. Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Rick Moranis was on fine form in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, as the inventor who accidentally shrinks his kids, along with the neighbours’, and the kids’ trials getting back to normal size.

8. An American Tail

The story of a small mouse, Feivel, who gets lost when his family move from Russia to the U.S, and how he goes about finding his family and getting back to them.

9. Big

Classic comedy for all the family, as young Josh wishes on a fairground machine that he was big, and wakes up an adult. Tom Hanks plays a kid in an adult’s body perfectly.

A dark and mystical story about a young girl who wishes for the goblins to take away her brother, so they oblige and she has to go on a hunt through the labyrinth to get him back!

11. Willow

A fantasy film set in a world of small people, wizards and monsters, in which a young farmer has to try and return a special baby to prevent the doom of all!

12. Who Framed Roger Rabbit

The blend of live action and animation works perfectly in this film and seeing Disney characters alongside Looney Tunes ones is amazing even now!

13. The Neverending Story

Another fantasy film, this one set in a realm where there are some amazingly imagined creatures and one scene that breaks your heart even now!

14. Ghostbusters

As a kid this genuinely scared me at times, but this is a wonderful comedy-horror that all the family can enjoy and never grows old!

15. The Dark Crystal

The film acted out by puppets that is similar in style to Labyrinth but is incredibly dark with some really bleak plot points and scenes, but is still very enjoyable.

16. Back to the Future

The ultimate 80s family film? Quite possibly, as this film contains humour, action, a really good story and some wonderful actors in its cast to bring it to life!
