Water slides are always a great addition to any pool – whether child or adult, for some reason people everywhere love hurling themselves down a plastic tube at high speeds in order to reach the swimming pool as fast as possible.

However, over the years, water slide designers have become increasingly more daring with the types of slide that they create, and thrill seekers now have plenty of extreme water slides to choose from.

In the list below, we bring you ten of the world’s most insane water slides to date…

15. King Cobra, New Jersey, USA
If you’re scared of snakes, this probably isn’t the water slide for you! The King Cobra can be found at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Jackson, New Jersey and features two ‘duelling slides’ so that you can race one of your friends.
Riders start off circling a figure eight before dropping 25 feet and entering the ‘Sidewinder’ section at speeds of up to 30 mph!

You end up sliding right up to the mouth of the cobra (watch out for those water jets!) before gently going back down and slowing to a halt.
Riders can travel along in striped rubber rings that match the scaly skin of the giant cobra.

This is definitely one of the most original designs on our list, and was actually built over a large volleyball pit.
It’s also one of the most popular waterslides at the park, so expect to join a long queue at the start!

14. Insano, Brazil
The Insano makes us feel a little dizzy just looking at photos of it! Unsurprisingly, this Brazilian water slide made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s tallest water slide, standing at over 130 ft tall (that’s as tall as a 14-story building).

Once you climb your way to the top of the Insano, you’re greeted with amazing views of the Atlantic Ocean…and the little matter of a near-vertical drop to deal with.
Once riders go over the edge, they quickly reach speeds of up to 65 mph – the same as a car travelling along the motorway.

We’re not sure how riders actually manage to stay on the slide, but it can’t be too dangerous because the Insano is a popular attraction amongst thrill seekers travelling through South America.

13. Master Blaster Water Coasters, Dubai
The Master Blaster ‘Water Coasters’ are an epic series of water slides built on the Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. Designers created four twisting, turning slides which all start at the top of a Mayan-style pyramid and shoot the riders through open-top sections and darkened tunnels.

Riders manage to gather enough speed that they’ll be able to go uphill at certain points too!
As with many of the water slides on this list, this particular design sees riders mounting a rubber ring to make their way through all of the twists and turns safely.

After travelling along the impressive set of tunnels (which blend in nicely with the surrounding greenery) the Master Blaster eventually deposits any riders into the waiting swimming pool at high speed.

12. The Scorpion’s Tail, Wisconsin, USA
Wisconsin Dells is a world famous water park located in Wisconsin, USA and contains over 70 acres worth of watery attractions for all the family to enjoy. The Scorpion’s Tail forms part of the ‘Noah’s Ark’ section of the park and contains some very unique features.

It’s ten stories tall and 400 ft long, plus the first drop of the ride will send you flying at speeds of 50-feet per second, all with the aim of shooting you up a near-vertical loop. Insane!

11. Jumeirah Sceirah, Dubai
If it’s speed you want, then look no further than the Jumeirah Sceirah water slide in Dubai. It features twin slides so you can race with family and friends, or even compete with total strangers on this scarily-fast ride.

Apparently some riders have managed to reach speeds of up to 80 mph, which sounds absolutely terrifying!
Just to add to the tension, a new feature has been added in which riders stand above a trap door and have to endure a very tense wait before they are randomly launched down the slide.

10. Head First Racer, China
The Head First Racer in China is the ideal choice for any ultra-competitive watersliders out there! Eight different multi-coloured tubes make up this particular water slide, so you can face off against friends and family in a very slippery kind of race.

Located at the Chimelong Water Park in South-East China, with this slide you even get to ride a small raft head-first to gain extra speed. And just so that there’s no squabbling over who crossed the line first, a race official stands at the bottom of the slide ready to announce the winner!

9. Vertigo, MSC Preziosa
Cruise ships are always looking for crazy new facilities to add to their entertainment offerings, but the Vertigo waterslide by MSC Preziosa might be one of the most original. It’s certainly not for the faint-hearted!

The slide is over 42 ft high and 394 ft long, but it’s the see-through section of the tube which travels out and over the side of the ship which really gets the blood pumping.

Waterslide fans out there can reach speeds of up to 20 feet per second in the Vertigo whilst briefly feeling as though they’re flying over the deep blue sea. Do not attempt if you are scared of heights!

8. The Aqualoop – Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin’
Aqualoops are a type of water slide that features an inclined loop, so that you can do a full 360˚. These particular slides were built in 2012 and since then, tens of thousands of people have been queuing up to climb those stairs to the top.

At Blue Bayou, the Aqualoop features four different tubes to choose from, so that you can race with friends and family. Nice!

7. Summit Plummet, Blizzard Beach, Disney World Florida
Disney World is well-known for its dramatic rollercoasters and astonishing attractions, but have you ever checked out any of the water slides there? The Summit Plummet is located at Blizzard Beach and, as the name suggests, it contains a terrifying drop just to really get your adrenaline going.

It reaches a height of 120 ft and a top speed of around 50 mph for kids and 60 mph for adults – almost the same as driving down the motorway! The initial drop is nearly 90 degrees so it’s probably best not to poke your head over the edge before you get going.

In fact, the angle of the slide means that some riders momentarily float above the surface of the tube – a hover-water slide in all its glory.

6. World Waterpark, Alberta, Canada
Malls in the USA and Canada contain their fair share of attractions, but the World Waterpark might be one of the most impressive we’ve seen so far. There are tons of water slides to choose from (15 in total), plus a surf simulator, giant wave pool and even a zip-line.

For thrill seekers, the most extreme water slides are the Twister and Cyclone, both of which stand at over 83 feet high.

The Twister even features a vertical trap door that drops you down to a gravity-defying loop, which then shoots you out into the chute of another water slide. Scary!

5. Boeing 747, Oregon, USA
This is a slightly strange theme for a water slide, but cool nonetheless, particularly because this ride actually features a real decommissioned Boeing 747 aeroplane.

Located in a water park in Oregon, USA, the dual slides snake around the plane’s body and have clear sections that allow you to see what’s going on outside as you whizz round the tube.
For true water slide fans there’s also the ‘Mach 1’, a slide which provides the rider with a 60ft vertical drop! In fact, the complex is not only a water slide, it’s a museum too.

That’s right, at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, you can brush up on your knowledge of military jets and spacecraft before enjoying some water slide fun.

4. Twister and Speedy, Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg Thermal Spa, Austria
Twister and Speedy are the names of the two water slides located in the Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg Thermal Spa, Austria. Speedy (the red slide) is 460 ft long and is designed to get you moving along at the fastest rate possible, whilst Twister comes in even longer at 660 ft and provides thrill seekers with a fast and intense ride.

3. X-Treme Faser, Galaxy Erding, Germany
The X-Treme Faser in Germany has earned its name for a reason – several riders have suffered injuries due to its design. At 200 ft long it can send people whizzing around its tubes at over 45 miles per hour and contains a free-fall section that has injured at least 6 women because of its intense speed.

In fact, the slide had to ban female riders due to the effects of the Faser on the female anatomy; the park is currently working on changing the slide to prevent injuries and open up the Faser to women once more. If you’re a man who fancies his chances on the original Faser design, you might have to hurry up before it’s gone forever!

2. Cliffhanger/F5 Twin Twisters, Texas, USA
These two slides in Galveston, Texas have to be some of the most impressive-looking on the list. They are available for two people to race against one another and the tubes coil around each other over and over again.

For such long water slides they also contain zero windows, so your ride will be almost completely dark the whole way through!

The designers did this deliberately in order to ramp up the fear and confusion, and at over 81 ft high we think this makes for a pretty scary ride.

1. Cannonball Loop, Vernon Township, New Jersey
Yes, the Cannonball Loop in Vernon Township, New Jersey is officially the world’s most dangerous water slide. It’s not hard to see why – the picture alone suggests that the chances of breaking your neck or back are high, to say the least. The slide was built in the mid-80s, and features a completely vertical 360 degree loop.

However, it had to be closed down due to the many injuries it caused, including bloody noses and back injuries. It was re-opened in the 1990s for a short while but yet more injuries forced it to be closed down once again. Now it stands as a monument to water slide designers who dare to dream but don’t actually manage to pull it off.
