What’s your favourite Demi Moore moment? We’ll give you a clue to ours: It involves her sitting on the lap of a hunky gentlemen whilst taking part in some pottery making. Yes, we all remember that scene from Ghost, as it was most definitely a movie moment that had something to offer for both sexes.

But there’s more to Moore than her legendary role in Ghost, as not only has she always been in the public eye, for various reasons, but she’s also starred in a number of other brilliant movies, including St. Elmo’s Fire, A Few Good Men and Indecent Proposal.

Below are 20 fascinating facts about this gorgeous star of the silver screen.

20. She never knew her real dad

Demi Moore, born Demi Gene Harmon on 11th November 1962, has sadly never known her real dad, an Air Force pilot who left her mum before she was even born.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Moore didn’t even realise the dad she knew was not her biological father until she found her parents’ marriage certificate.

It was then she saw that the pair had been married a year after she was born.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Moore has been quoted as saying “my dad was Dan Guynes. He raised me. There is a man who would be considered my biological father who I don’t really have a relationship with.”

Tragically, Dan Guynes committed suicide in 1980 at the age of 37.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Given that the 80s made Demi Moore into a star, it’s hard to imagine how she coped with both the tragic news and the burdens of her newfound fame.

19. She was a songwriter before she was an actress

Before she made it big in Hollywood, Moore was once a model, after signing up with an agency when she was just 16 years old.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

She also wrote three songs for the band The Nu Kats, after getting to know, and living with, their lead singer Freddy Moore.

She also appeared in the band’s music video for the song ‘It’s Not a Rumour’.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The couple would later wed, and after they later divorced, Demi continued to use Freddy’s surname.

She still regularly receives royalties from her time as a songwriter.

18. She posed nude when she was underage

Shockingly, Moore appeared naked on the front cover of an adult magazine when she was just 16 years old.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Moore has said “I only posed for the cover of Oui. I was 16, I told them I was 18.”

She also appeared naked in Celebrity Sleuth magazine, later admitting “I was 17 years old. I was underage.”

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Moore was first introduced to the modelling world after she signed with the Elite Modelling Agency and went to Europe to work as a pin-up girl.

She then turned her hand to acting after enrolling in a drama class.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

17. She hated being part of the ‘Brat Pack’

Moore’s breakthrough movie was 1985’s St. Elmo’s Fire, which was a big success despite being unpopular with critics.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Her role in the movie meant that she was often considered to be part of the Brat Pack.

However, she always fought against this claim, believing that it was “demeaning”.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Moore is listed as a ‘core member’, alongside stars such as Ally Sheedy and Rob Lowe.

Like many of her Brat Pack peers, such fame at a young age led to substance abuse issues.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

16. She can choose which eye to cry out of on demand

When auditioning for the 1990 movie Ghost, Moore impressed everyone with her amazing ability to produce tears on demand.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

We’re sure you’ll agree this is a good trick to have up your sleeve as an actress.

And believe it or not, not only could she produce tears whenever she wanted, but she was also able to choose which eye to produce the tears from!

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

However, unlike most of us, Moore actually manages to pull of a red-eyed, tear-stained face.

A tough feat for sure!

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

15. Ghost made half a billion dollars worldwide

You may not be too surprised to learn that Ghost was by far Moore’s most successful movie, making over half a billion dollars at the box office.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Ghost became the highest grossing film of 1990, and was the first movie directed by Jerry Zucker on his own.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The film received a mixed critical response, but was a huge commercial hit.

This was the movie that made Moore a household name.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

14. She was once the highest paid actress in movie history

Moore received a whopping $12 million to star in the 1996 movie Striptease.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

This made her the highest-paid Hollywood actress at the time.

Striptease was actually a fairly big commercial success, making $113 million from a budget of $50 million.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The film boasted a star-studded cast, including Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg.

However, it was completely panned by critics.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

13. Her career never recovered from Striptease

After the critical mauling she received for Striptease, Moore starred in 1997’s G.I. Jane, for which she famously shaved her head.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

G.I. Jane was also panned, and despite going on to appear in movies such as Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Mr. Brooks, her career never really recovered.

Moore has recently spoken out about sexism in the industry after she was told she was too old to play ‘sexy roles’.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Moore has made it clear she’s not yet ready to take on the ‘grandma’ role.

‘There aren’t that many good roles for women over 40,’ Moore explained. ‘A lot of them don’t have much substance, other than being someone’s mother or wife.’

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Her ex-husband Ashton Kutcher was apparently less enamoured with her creepy collection.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

“I’m trying to convince wifey to open a doll museum,’ Kutcher was quoted saying. ‘She also has thousands of Barbies and original GI Joes.’

Her collection was recently insured for £1.5 million.

Her parents also had issues with substance abuse.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

As well as this, her father also struggled with gambling, which only added to the family’s financial problems.

Moore underwent two surgeries in an attempt to cure her condition.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Luckily, the surgery was successful and left Moore free to pursue her modelling career.

Let’s face it, in an industry focused on appearances, she probably wouldn’t have been the star she is today without it.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

8. She has three children with Bruce Willis

The pair got hitched back in 1987, and Willis was Moore’s second husband.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Together, they had three children named Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.

Unfortunately the pair split in 1998, after 11 years of marriage.

At the time, she was seven months pregnant with her second child.

One year later, she posed naked for the magazine again.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

Freddy was twelve years her senior and married to his first wife at the time.

However, his wife was soon out of the picture and Demi firmly in it.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

The pair wed in 1980, but the happy union lasted just four years before the actress decided to call it a day.

During their marriage, she used the surname ‘Moore’ as a stage name. This has (obviously) stuck ever since.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

4. She was married to a toy boy

Moore is clearly no stranger to age-gap relationships.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

However, this time it was her who would be the older and wiser of the pair.

Moore began dating actor Ashton Kutcher in 2003, and they married two years later.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

Kutcher is 15 years younger than the actress and just ten years older than her eldest daughter.

As we’ve already established, Moore married Ashton Kutcher in 2005. At the time, Moore was 41 and Kutcher just 25.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_dVa8″]

The ceremony was a simple affair, with 150 guests in attendance.

Amongst the list of attendees, the one that surprised us most was Moore’s ex-husband Bruce Willis.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

He attended the do along with the couple’s three kids.

Although this might have been awkward for some, it’s clear Moore and Willis’ amicable divorce allowed them to stay close friends.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_z9hm”]

Moore and Willis’ first daughter, Rumer, was born in in 1998.

[adunit mobile=”RTK_wCZW”]

She has also worked with her father on several occasions, namely in The Whole Nine Yards and Hostage.
