If you weren’t already aware of National 4pm Finish Day, it might be time to have a word with the boss, because the annual ‘holiday’ is approaching fast.
Though not an actual official holiday, the idea for National 4pm Finish Day – promoted by Red Bull – proved so popular last year that it’s back in 2018. So, tomorrow, hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones who get to start the weekend at 4 o’clock.
The idea behind promoting finishing an hour early one Friday each year is, according to Red Bull, about encouraging companies to allow for more productive working practices (as opposed to simply introducing chaos to the working week).
In a press release, Red Bull UK wrote: “You put the hours in to get the job done. That’s why on Friday, September 14 2018, we want to give you back that extra hour (or more) by finishing early. #4pmFinish isn’t about slacking off, it’s about being more productive”.
Indeed, some companies have already begun having early finish Fridays on a regular basis. The belief is that the greater work-life balance offered by shorter working hours on a Friday, typically the least productive day of the week, leads to happier, more productive workers and better overall results for the company.
Now all you have to do is convince your boss of the merits of kicking off Friyay early tomorrow.
