Robbie Williams and wife Ayda Field are reportedly joining the X-Factor after signing a £10 million deal.
The 44-year-old singer has appeared on the show in the past as a mentor in the judge’s houses, but this is the first time Robbie will be taking a seat on the judging panel.
It looks like his actress Ayda will also be joining the line-up when the show returns in August. The Mirror claims Robbie and Ayda will be replacing judges Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger, who will not be returning for the 15th series.
Producers are said to be “over the moon” with the deal, with a source saying: “She thinks doing the show with Robbie will be a lot of fun – particularly as she wants to beat her husband at his own game. She can’t wait to get started.”
Robbie has been the front runner to replace Louis since the 65-year-old announced his departure last week.
In a statement, Louis said: “I’ve had a fantastic 13 years on The X Factor but the show needs a change and I’m ready to leave.
“I’m looking forward to another series of Ireland’s Got Talent, going back to my day job as a manager, writing my memoirs and seeing the world!”
It was announced last week that on-off judge Sharon Osbourne will not be returning this year for the auditions section of the reality show.
Robbie and Ayda will be the first married couple on the judging panel. US-born Ayda began her career on the soap Days of Our Lives, and is now a regular guest on Loose Women.
She and Robbie met through a friend in 2006 and married three years later. They have two children, Theodora Rose, 5, and Charlton Valentine, 3.
Ayda’s knowledge in the music industry is thanks to her marriage to Robbie, with a source saying: “She thinks doing the show with Robbie will be a lot of fun – particularly as she wants to beat her husband at his own game. She can’t wait to get started.”
Robbie will be the second member of Take That to become an X Factor judge, following Gary Barlow, who replaced Simon Cowell for two series from 2011 to 2013. Simon has been a fan of the singer for a long time, and the pair even live near each other in West London.
Ayda is also friends with Simon’s wife Lauren Silverman, while their kids are pals with Simon’s four-year-old son Eric.
