They were a Saturday night staple, but TV presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly haven’t been seen together in months – not since the drink-driving crash that would send one half of the iconic duo to rehab.
Dec even appeared without his partner at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday, joined instead by his wife Ali Astall, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child. He stayed quiet while on stage with the rest of the cast of Britain’s Got Talent, as the group accepted the award for Best Entertainment Programme.
Still, it looks like the pair might finally be reunited, with fan Davina Darr sharing a selfie with Ant and Dec in South London. The presenters looked happy as they smiled for the photo, which was captioned with: “Pleasure to randomly bump into @antanddecofficial today! Lovely guys!”
Darr told the Mirror Online that both Ant and Dec were both “super nice and in a good mood,” with Ant even sporting a new post-rehab tattoo on his wrist.
Ant has stepped back from both work commitments and the public eye for the past few months, after he was arrested for drink-driving on March 18th. The star collided with two other vehicles while driving in his Mini in Richmond, south-west London, with his mother as a passenger on the Sunday afternoon.
One of the other two cars was driven by Faheem Vanoo, who had his wife and four-year-old daughter in the vehicle at the time. Vanoo told The Sun: “His Mini came flying around a sharp corner on the wrong side of the road trying to overtake a blue car.
“I hardly had time to react and turned in towards the kerb to avoid a head-on collision.”
Ant reportedly lost control while heading around a bend, before running into oncoming traffic, hitting the Vanoo family and another car behind him. Ant had over double the recommended limit of alcohol in his system at the time, and failed a breathalsyer test administered by police at the scene.
He checked into rehab three days later for addiction to painkillers. He has since pleaded guilty in court, and was handed down a 20-month driving ban and a £86,000 fine – what is believed to be Britain’s biggest ever. Still, it’s not much of a dent on his £130,000 a week salary.
It is not clear how long the TV star will be absent from our screens, as Ant has cancelled all of his planned work on BGT and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here indefinitely.
