The movie Blade Runner has been embedded in our minds for the last 34 years. It is a science fiction film that came out in 1982 and it was set in a dystopian Los Angeles world in the year 2019. In it, genetically engineered replicants are being manufactured by a huge corporation for one purpose only. These replicants are also banned from Earth and are used only as workers on off-world colonies. However, once in a while, a replicant tries to ignore their ban on Earth and when that happens, they are hunted down by a special police force known as ‘Blade Runners’.
In the first movie, a whole group of replicants escaped and were hiding out in L.A. It was a problem that was big enough to call in an ex-Blade Runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who reluctantly agrees to come out of retirement for one last assignment. At the time, this movie didn’t get much attention at the box office and yet it has since gone on to become a cult classic.
Now, the next installment is finally coming out next year thanks to Denis Villeneuve’s vision of the future. Also, we have been given an important detail about this next version in the title alone which is “Blade Runner 2049”. In it, we know what year this movie will be set in which puts it exactly 30 years after the original!
We also found out that Harrison Ford will be reprising his role and that Ryan Gosling is set to star in it next year. We can even tell a lot about the upcoming film with this photo below of Gosling, Ford, Velleneuve and the original ‘Blade Runner’ director, Ridley Scott who will also be a co-producer on the ‘Blade Runner 2049’ film.
